83 Beautiful Wordpress Themes You (Probably) Haven’t Seen

Sometimes it’s just like searching for a needle in a haystack: if you’ve ever googled for free and quality Wordpress Themes, you know exactly what we’re talking about. Most designers love to create Wordpress themes, so they can demonstrate the quality of their work and add some fresh works to their portfolios.

However, most Wordpress themes are either used too often (Kubrick theme, now K2, is definitely overused) or just have nothing to offer - particularly, if you are looking for a free, impressive and professional design. However, sometimes search is worth it. In the gallery below you’ll find 83 free Wordpress Themes you probably haven’t seen yet. All themes offer quality, elegance and a user-friendly interface. … and please take a look at Dr. Web’s free Wordpress Theme ModernOak. Links checked: July/3rd 2008.

    Pat (February 9th, 2007, 10:06 pm)

Hey, I always read you entries and really like this blog. Just came here and saw you added my Wordpress theme to that list (80), funny :-)

  2. 2.

    Allexiel (February 9th, 2007, 10:20 pm)

I just released my own theme at my blog, and those free wordpress themes make me cry -_-
I want to make a new one now!
    Thanks for that list :)

  3. 3.

    stuart (February 9th, 2007, 10:29 pm)

Nice collection. Too bad I just switched to Mephisto.

  4. 4.

    Luisa (February 9th, 2007, 11:07 pm)

Had already grabbed the first one as a placeholder for my site, while I learn how to work with CSS myself.

Love your site, thanks for all the great information you put here.

    Luisa.

  5. 5.

    Navdeep (February 9th, 2007, 11:15 pm)

Very good looking themes. I hope my Blog Link [www.whitesquid.com] could be nominated under this category. :)

  6. 6.

    Han (February 9th, 2007, 11:57 pm)

Wordpress themes are overly complicated :( I’ve done a series of “wordpress themes for beginners” themes! (ie none of that unnecessary coding!)

  7. 7.

    Bill (February 10th, 2007, 12:18 am)

I’m constantly amazed at the great stuff you feature on this site. This is a fantastic list. I always dread digging through the WP themes to find one I like, and here you’ve done all the work for me. :)

  8. 8.

    Brandon (February 10th, 2007, 1:28 am)

Thanks for the list! I use a few of them currently, but most of them I’d never seen. I’m going to search the rest of your site now.

  9. 9.

    Oliver Tani (February 10th, 2007, 1:38 am)

This is an awesome list. I usually use the wordpress theme viewer online but have never seen most of these… I love wordpress for its simplicity and its numerous abilities… I just gotta stop using it on every singe site I put online! Haha!

  10. 10.

    Derek (February 10th, 2007, 2:57 am)

FYI: For items 68 and 69, the href address is pointing to the address that 67 is referring to (Minima Plus). The preview links for each are correct though. Thanks for compiling this list, it’s very useful.

  11. 11.

    Max (February 10th, 2007, 3:48 am)

wow! I love your lists / collections. Keep on ;-)

  12. 12.

    Matt (February 10th, 2007, 4:58 am)

Is that Soxnest (redsox) theme downloadable? I couldn’t find a link to it anywhere. They mention their themes are downloadable at Link [www.devlounge.net], but Soxnest isn’t listed. Anyone know where to find it?

  13. 13.

    David G. Paul (February 10th, 2007, 5:08 am)

Well it’s a list thats not just useful for Wordpress users, but also for people who are looking for inspiration.

    Nice job!

  14. 14.

    Jim (February 10th, 2007, 5:28 am)

Can these be used for blogs housed at Wordpress.com or just if you are using the Wordpress software on your own site?

  15. 15.

    Eoin (February 10th, 2007, 5:45 am)

Can I recommend Mandigo (at ) for the next iteration of this list?

  16. 16.

    Eric (February 10th, 2007, 7:03 am)

    Well this can’t be a coincidence…

    Link [www.drweb.de]

More than a slight resemblance here - but kudos for finding 3 on your own!

  17. 17.

    smurfstah (February 10th, 2007, 10:46 am)

AWESOME stuff mate!!! beautiful stuff here :D

  23. 23.

    Andrew (February 11th, 2007, 6:05 am)

  24. 24.

    jez (February 11th, 2007, 11:39 pm)

    ahmet (February 12th, 2007, 3:05 am)

Using an overly popular Wordpress theme is a sure-fire way to have your blog to fall into obscurity. These are all very impressive and I hope they encourage new users to tweak their blog designs now they see what is possible.

    Jason (February 13th, 2007, 2:16 am)

I just finished uploading my modified version of fjords and my friend shows me this! I’m not sure if I’m happy to see all these beautiful themes or really upset?! Regardless your magazine here is great, thank you for all the great resources.

    Jordan (February 19th, 2007, 4:01 am)

Why not just link to Link [www.drweb.de], instead of copy/pasting that post here?

  43. 43.

    Karl (February 19th, 2007, 3:56 pm)

@Jordan: Because both websites are run by the same folks… DrWeb’s for german language people, SmashingMagazine is international.

  76. 76.

  77. 77.

    Thomas (June 2nd, 2007, 12:25 am)

Great collection of sophisticated themes. In case someone is looking for something simpler but easier to customize, you might want to have a look at a template I just completed. Again, it’s not a visual stunner, but if simple design and easy customization are what you are looking for, you’re invited to check it out.

  78. 78.

Thanks for your compilation. I didn´t like the idea of surfing through hundreds of themes, and here I founded what I need.
I´m going to use Leia for my new blog.

  128. 128.

    Kelly (August 23rd, 2007, 11:44 pm)

Amongst these 83 listed, I prefer: iceberg, soxnest, intrablog, XV, plain box, Theme leia, peaceful rush, greenery, fall season, glossy blue and japanese cherry.

There are many more “wordpress themes” more beautiful than the ones listed here but they are hard to find and are not free, and tend to lean towards more to the ARTISTIC like Plain Box/Theme Leia and Jap Cherry.

I personally find the REVVED UP theme (by Rudd-O) nice too cos I can replace i with my own face. :)

I need help please, I am a graphic designer and want to have a wordpress blog, but I hate the themes I’ve seen, however as a graphic designer, these are quite nice.

What I am looking for is to learn how to insert a custom header into a wp header… It is not as easy as all say… I am a big novice at this… can someone give me some step by step instructions… I would even pay for the help if necessary…

    thankyou

I think the best themes are from TemplateWorld. Why? Because most of them are designed in Web 2.0 standards and also they are 100% XHTML and CSS - W3C Standards Compliants.

Highly recommend them. You can find many themes from TemplateWorld that are listed on this page. For example the Time Manager theme.
