42 Design/Tech Magazines To Read
By Smashing Editorial, March 19th, 2007 in Developer's Toolbox | 132 Comments | Forum
Regardless of what it is that you’re selling, in order to remain competitive, you have to know exactly, what’s going on in the field you’re working in. More than that - actually, you have to know what happens next, which trends are coming up and which technologies will become big in the future. Achieving that is a solid foundation for successul development and right decisions at the right time.
What is right for business, is also right for online business. To catch up with the latest developments in design, development and web-related areas, it’s reasonable to read design/tech-related online-magazines. However, the choice is huge, and the quality of magazines isn’t always as good as you’d probably like it to be. Therefore decent references can be extremely useful, particularly if you don’t know where to start from.
This overview of over 40 established international design/tech-related sources is supposed to give you an overview of magazines you should read or at least scan from time to time. Some of the sources are well-known by (almost) everybody; hopefully not all of them.

Your lists rock!
I have just referenced the one about the job boards at my blog.
Congratulations on an excellent work!

Espenhh (March 19th, 2007, 6:07 pm)
What a great list. I really have to check some of these out. The problem only is that it is WAY to many for my spare-time =)

David Airey :: Creative Design :: (March 19th, 2007, 6:11 pm)
A comprehensive list indeed.
What I’d like to see is an explanation of each one so I know which I’d prefer to visit.
Thanks.
OverZero.it (March 19th, 2007, 7:20 pm)

Looks like CenterNetworks missed the cut - well there is always next year!
Congrats to all those that made it!
Anthony (March 20th, 2007, 3:32 am)
My two personal favorites that didn’t make the list: Ultrashock.com (Flash Forum) and Ozzu.com (webmaster forum).
Ultra-shock is a must if you are a Flash designer. Those guys rock the Flash house
wpthemes (March 20th, 2007, 3:36 am)
Thanks for the list, discovered some good sites today from this list!
:)
Ryan (March 20th, 2007, 4:33 am)
Sometimes determining the next big thing is not as important as mastering the current big thing. I am very surprised that Jakob Nielsen’s Alertbox (http://www.useit.com/alertbox/) did not make the list. Some of the bleeding-edge technologists out there could benefit from the extensive human-computer interaction analysis found on his site.
Cymry (March 20th, 2007, 5:22 am)
Great list. I’ve bookmarked quite a few to check out later Thanks.
Reno (March 20th, 2007, 7:11 am)
Oh good gravy that is a whole lot more reading to get around. Hopefully will have time left to actually do some coding/designing.
Brian (March 20th, 2007, 11:24 am)

streaky (March 21st, 2007, 12:50 pm)
Before & After is worth every penny, been getting it for a while, though I’m no designer, it’s given me some great ideas and inspiration in the past when I’ve needed it.
jennessa (March 22nd, 2007, 1:31 am)
This is what I try to search on google. Thanks for collecting these links. Very useful information.
Christian Watson (March 22nd, 2007, 12:21 pm)
Nice list, although I’m a little disappointed that more user experience resources aren’t included.
As Ryan, notes it’s hard to exclude Useit from a list like this. I would also include UIE’s Brainsparks blog (http://www.uie.com/brainsparks/). And maybe lastly, Link [www.guuui.com] - after all it is “The Interaction Designer’s Coffee Break”!
PS: Please can we have a comment preview?
deko (March 23rd, 2007, 4:07 pm)
