Smashing Magazine has been nominated for the Most Valuable Design Website in the Webinale Awards 2008, the award of an international Web conference Webinale which will take place in Karlsruhe, Germany on May 26 - 28. The competition awards most useful and innovative sites related to design and technology.

We’re competing against CSSBeauty and AListApart which are probably long way ahead of us. However, we believe that together with thousands of further smashing readers you can make a difference. The winner will get 5.000 € which we would invest in the Smashing Magazine to be able to publish more useful, creative and inspirational articles and release more free high-quality icons, fonts and Wordpress themes.

On Webinale you can also meet Vitaly Friedman, a chief-editor of Smashing Magazine, who will hold two sessions (in English if necessary) — a session “Designtrends 2008: Trends To Be Aware Of” (27th of May 2008) and a session “How might the Web of the future look like?” (28th of May 2008). Smashing Magazine will be glad to meet you there.

i disagree. you’re far more valuable tha ALAS these days. ALAS was a pioneer in shifting the web design focus years ago. the keyword here is “was.” nowadays it’s filled with fluffs, no substance.

SM offers very practical information, at a much higher frequency. I wish you guys the best.

I’d love to upgrade to IE7.

But like a lot of general office users in this world, I can’t because slow network adminstrators won’t update the systems, or allow users to install their own browsers.

Just waiting for the forced IE7 update, but just don’t think its fair to exclude a bunch of users for a problem out of their hands.

Also, the problem isn’t with the Smashing website (They’ve actually put the effort in for the site to work for people like me), its with the voting website. I literally can’t vote or really do anything on that site, as much as I would like to.

Just seems silly, thats all.
