(Really) Stunning Pictures and Photos
Photography is a very powerful medium and a very difficult craft. Excellent photos don’t only display some facts — they tell stories, awake feelings and manage to share with the audience the emotions a photographer experienced when clicking the shot button. Taking excellent pictures is damn hard as you need to find a perfect perspective and consider the perfect timing. To achieve brilliant photography you need practice and patience. However, it is worth it: the results can be truly stunning.
Below you’ll find 50 brilliant photos and stunning pictures — some pictures tell stories, some are incredibly beautiful, some are funny and some are very sad.
All pictures are copyright of their respective owners. Please explore the further work of the photographers by browsing through their work. We’ve tried to cover different themes so that everybody will find something interesting and spectacular for himself / herself. (Really) Stunning Pictures and Photos
Water and a Girl
Beautiful composition, excellent scenery, amazing play of colors.
The Ball is Coming!
Analogue shot with Seagull 6×6 (Chinese clone of Rolleiflex), made in 1983. “The gulfball is suspended on a fishing line in front of the camera. It was a stormy day. So I had to shoot 5 or 6 films for getting one image with the ball in the center position AND a light reflection on the golf club.”
Sky
The sky is reflected in a drop of water. Beautiful scenery.
Returning to the same ocean
Beautiful sand textures, beautiful composition and somehow a very sad story hidden behind the image.
Tree
A colorful tree from a different perspective.
Gizmo
How adorable is that?
Glittery Ball
“The reflection in this water droplet, it looks like the glitter is stuck to the water, but NO, it is reflections from the glitter on the feather.”
Yaw? Weeeee
You probably shouldn’t try this in your local trains. Such pictures are unforgettable.
Leap of Faith
What does being one step away from falling into the abyss feel like? The photo is taken by Paul Perton.
Astronaut Self-shot Over Earth
Could this be the best self-shot ever? It’s truly out of this world.
Autumn in red
Pure beauty. No words are necessary.
FlickrMeeting – Genova – G3
Blue baloon, a small detail, gives the picture an incredible power.
Sea in the sea
Incredible scenery. Apparently, the shot was made on the boat in the middle of the sea.
If I was an old building…
“If I was an old building I would want to be by the ocean. Till’ the end of times”. Photographed at the old fishing piers of the Texas Bolivar Peninsula.
Bee the Cat
“It’s hard to get the right exposure, with them being white, and with the fact they don’t stay still unless they’re sleeping.”
Passing the Golden Gate Bridge
Glow
Smoke from a leaf pile.
Swimming pool
Taking a look at the swimming pool. From a quite different perspective.
Reflect
A reflection from the louvre’s pyramid.
Time To Go Home…
“Tthe way the birds are lined up makes the composition extraordinary fantastic.”
Seagull on a sign
This seagull seems to have its own personal understanding of human’s rules.
Marshmellow girl
A beautiful composition.
Refashioned Dahlia
Photo taken at Duncan Garden in Spokane, WA.
Water drop
A photo taken at the exact right time. Available as a desktop wallpaper in various resolutions.
Blessed fog
A shot of Grande Madre di Dio in Torino, Italy.
Pigeon Point Lighthouse
“Once per year at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse they shut down the weak insipid modern (presumably electric) light and switch over the the 5 kerosene lamps and fresnel lens of the original, as it was 135 years ago.”
Fire Shot
Location: Changa Beach, Coquimbo.
A conversation
Fox, bird and snow. This picture is titled “Good afternoon, my name is chikiricuatro”.
Shanghai – Acrobatic
Picture taken during an acrobatic show in a Shanghainese theatre.
Northern lights as seen from space
Skier’s Paradise
“Climbing partner at 17,000′ on Denali carrying his skis down to around 16,200′ where he will be able to ski down the rest of the way to base camp at 7200′.”
Photograph Taken at the Exact Right Time
All alone.
This shot is taken on a Norway’s cliff Prekestolen (also known as Preacher’s Pulpit).
Above the clouds
The shot taken during the flight from Vienna to Frankfurt, approaching Frankfurt.
Cockfight
Taken by Jan Sochor.
Polar lights
Öxarárfoss in Iceland – Aurora Borealis taken by Arnar Valdimarsson.
Here floats a bubble in the air…

May 16th, 2008 7:36 pmThose “right time” shot are exceptional. Bravo They aught to be put on billboards instead of those may meaningless ones. Beautify or towns and cities with talent and exppression such as yours. I thank you for your sharing and bid you continued drive and success…

May 16th, 2008 10:10 pmAbsolutely exquisit: I’ll have to review them many times. I applaud the work of the artist or artists.
CC
May 17th, 2008 6:12 amMakes me want to look for the “moment” to capture. Reminds me of the Jacobean poets who would go from the large flights of mind to the miniscule…the beauty in the water droplets vs the sweeping clouds. Nice juxtaposition …and I like the philosophical discussion of art in photo vs snapshots.
Photoshop must have changed the saying to: a picture is worth a thousand lies. Good to be wary, but why not enjoy the impact of the picture?
Mina
May 17th, 2008 7:50 amAll of the pictures above are realy astonishing, specially pictures which clrealy indicate “right time” capturing of the nature. The picture Polar Light is very impressive.

May 17th, 2008 9:54 amVery interesting pictures! Creative ideas. there are some that could be better…but overall, nice job. I really enjoyed Taw? weeee.
Girl and water, bee the cat, seagull on a sign (cute idea), bird and meat, bird and water, cockfight, and family of bugs ( I have done many ladybug pictures my self)
Even if these aren’t “real photography” like some might say, there are real art. They have impact!!! SO as an artist a give you an A for the day:) ~LeeAnna

May 17th, 2008 6:49 pmVery nice photos, but cockfighting is illegal in most places. I sure wouldn’t want my name attached to a photo like that, even if it is legal where it was taken. It’s a cruel sport and most people don’t want to have any part in it.

May 18th, 2008 3:30 amI bought myself a digital SLR last Christmas. These pictures make me feel like throwing it away. If I ever produce a photograph half as good as some of these, it would make me a very happy man.

May 18th, 2008 7:52 amWow, incredible!
Jan
May 18th, 2008 10:05 amSome of the photos are very beautiful but these are mostly the ones which are taken of natural landscapes, anything staged (like the gull, golfball or cat, child, goldfish) lacks in potency. Good work, but photography really is a lot about having the right instinct
Nannette
May 19th, 2008 6:13 amabsolutly inspiring…some touch deeper than others…staged are hard ones…some relate and some don’t…I think you covered a lot of areas for viewing pleasure…thank you
Danny
May 19th, 2008 6:31 amI sorry but anybody that didn’t like these pictures should go somewhere else, because I thought that these pictures were better that the ones that I take with my camera. WOW!!! That’s all I can say!

May 19th, 2008 6:32 amFor those few with the nasty criticisms- Grow up! These shots were shared for the enjoyment of others. They certainly made my Monday morning a little more pleasant! Thanks to those who took the time to post them.

May 19th, 2008 7:32 amAll stunning photographs specially ALL ALONE took my breath away. As regards all those
comments against cockfight photos i hope all of them are vegetarians because if you dislike
cockfight you should also dislike eating them. Cheers! :o)

Lisa
May 19th, 2008 11:18 am49 of these pictures are indeed beautiful, whether real or not, I do however find #45 to be disturbing as cockfighting is a cruel, vicous and disgusting “sport” that I don’t find to be beautiful at all and wish that it hadn’t been included in with these others.
Paul
May 19th, 2008 1:01 pmbeautiful
Helen Hawk
May 19th, 2008 2:18 pmI love the catching of beauty in a moment in time as these photos all do with the exception of the “cockfighting” – these is nothing beautiful in what these animals are required to do without asking their permission.

May 21st, 2008 3:34 pmI really enjoyed seeing everyone one of these photo’s. Some more than others. Those that have such negative opinions should just keep there LOUSY comments to themselves, and let those that ENJOY them do just THAT….enjoy.

May 21st, 2008 9:21 pmPictures are superb, i have made posters of few of them
geeky
May 22nd, 2008 1:10 amThe images are “unreal”, colors are unreal, light is unreal. It is OK to tweak an image a little, but face it, these colors & light combinations are not available in nature. That is exactly why you like these, because they are unreal, dreamy, movie-like.
Many of you who like these pictures will not get the same joy from pictures of pre-computer era. In those oldies, skies are sky blue, not parliament blue.

May 22nd, 2008 10:58 amthe poster “bob” who commented that these are photoshop pictures is an idiot, same with the people who are crying about the cock fight. keep your self-righteous, tree-hugging opinions out of it and just recognize art for what it is.
mili
May 22nd, 2008 7:50 pmThe professional photography. Truely nice to see.

May 23rd, 2008 5:27 amI agree, the silhouette matches the bird perfecftly. And despite the texture of the paint – why on earth would there be a sign prohibiting seagulls? Who’s it for?

May 23rd, 2008 7:42 amSimplesmente fantátisco.
Stanwise
May 23rd, 2008 4:18 pmAre you looking at photographs to see beauty, to see reality, or to see art?
That’s the answer to all the complaints on this page. If you’re looking for beauty, the cockfight is abhorrent because it shows blood and cruelty. If you’re looking for reality, the cockfight is just a piece of the good and the bad that the world has to offer, but the seagull image and many of the other edited ones are artificial. If you’re looking for art, then some of the cute animal photos are a waste of time.
Just accept that everyone has different priorities when they look at photos on the internet.

May 24th, 2008 7:58 amum I hope you know that some of these are photoshoped, like the bird on the sign. but these photos are beautiful, (even some of the other photoshoped ones) and to Geeky, I also Hope you know what you are talking about, think about the professional photographers in the old days, take a look at the pulitzer prize photos and then look at ansel adams and tell he used a computer for those! even the old photographers could tweak their photos in the dark room! but yes some of these are photoshoped and for the people who say that they aren’t take a look at worth1000.com and study those for a while.

May 27th, 2008 8:15 amawesome!!!
Horst Engels
May 27th, 2008 9:42 pmThe picture of the cock fight is beautiful because of the drama in the scene, the composition, and the way the photographer filtered it to make it stark and colorful at the same time.
It doesn’t matter that the image “makes you sick” or that the activity “is illegal.” The artistic composition of the piece is fantastic, and has caused you, and others, (myself included) to briefly ponder an activity that normally we wouldn’t even think about. Thus, the photographer has raised consciousness of the issue, and in a subtle and constructive way.

May 28th, 2008 9:04 amPuhleeeze …
Photograph/snapshot/picture … whatever.
Photoshop/”real” … whatever.
So, you know about photography. Bully!
Why can’t people just relax and enjoy?
Neither I nor, I am sure, many of the other commentors could never create any of these photos. It made me happy to view thm.
All the rest is “sound and fury signifying nothing”.

June 8th, 2008 7:48 amI enjoyed the photos. I feel sorry for people who can’t simply enjoy the beauty and creativity of others. I don’t really care if these are professional photographers, photo editors, or just people capturing moments in time. Why not just sit back, take a deep breath and enjoy the view!

June 18th, 2008 6:23 pmVery beautiful series, I’m certainly glad I stumbled upon this. Some of the photos here I’m not sure I would charactarise as “beautiful photos” but rather strong/beautiful moments…
Someone up there in the comments said that some of these photos are so photoshopped that you can’t call them photos anymore… I couldn’t disagree more. They are still photos. Call it a meeting of two arts on one platform. PhotoShop is now an integral part of modern photography, just as much as silver-nitrate was in the past century.
