DressUp! Avatars Icon Set
By Smashing Editorial, November 5th, 2008 in Freebies | 73 Comments | Forum
Today we are glad to release DressUp! Avatars Icon Set, a set with 16 original avatar icons in .png. This set was designed by Dante Michael Afrondoza especially for Smashing Magazine and its readers. The set was created from scratch using Adobe Fireworks — the .png-sources are available for free download as well. The icons are available in 128×128px.
Download the icon set for free!
You can use the set for all of your projects for free and without any restrictions. You can freely use it for both your private and commercial projects, including software, online services, templates and themes. The set may not be resold, sublicensed, rented, transferred or otherwise made available for use. Please link to this article if you would like to spread the word.

Behind the design
As always, here are some insights from the designer herself:
“This is my first avatar set that I made from scratch using Adobe Fireworks CS3. My inspiration for the set were the avatars made by Iconka. After seeing how they made it look easy with a different program, I had to try it with Fireworks.
I’ve done vector graphics before, using Flash and Photoshop, but this set was a learning experience for me. The reason why I used Fireworks is because we only had one copy of Adobe CS3 Web Premium, and my officemate already uses Photoshop on his computer. I made this initially as a set of profile images for use by our client, but it eventually evolved into something more personal.
It emphasizes how much fun I had learning Fireworks, that I just made more for my friends.”
Thank you very much, Michael! We appreciate your efforts.

Thank you for the work. I do appreciate the time spent on these.
On the other hand I feel that some of the new freebies are getting more into the “not very usefull” list.
A bit less might be better.

I totally agree with Alain, The set is cute, but there are so many sets in the last months, so much times with quantity over quality.
SM do a great job, still the best on the internet, but I miss the old days, when each post meaned a lot to our work.
Hugs from Brazil.

Icons are really great but one problem seems that source file is just plain png file not fireworks png with layers, styles and such. I am I right?
Nehj (November 6th, 2008, 7:08 pm)

This are GREAT icons. Very useful. They would actually be a ton more useful with the source, but as Vladan has pointed out, that file is just a regular PNG, not a Fireworks PNG. Here’s hoping the link will be fixed/updated!
Kat (March 14th, 2009, 4:47 pm)
Many thanks! It’s been a long search looking for occupational icons. Cheers to the talented Dante Michael Afrondoza!
