Desktop Wallpaper Calendar: February 2009
The wallpapers calendar series will not be discontinued. Next month is the last month in our desktop wallpaper calendar series. In February, you’ll have one last chance to showcase your work by designing a desktop wallpaper calendar for Smashing Magazine. But don’t worry, we have a number of new contests coming up, so it will be worth staying in touch!
Wallpapers can serve as an excellent source of inspiration. However, if you use one wallpaper for a long time, it becomes harder to draw inspiration from it. That’s why we decided to supply you with smashing wallpapers to cover 12 months. And to make them a little more distinctive than the usual fare, we decided to embed calendars for each month. If you need to look up a date, isn’t it better to show off nice wallpaper with a nice calendar, instead of launching your default time application?
This post features 70 (!) free desktop wallpapers for February 2009, created by designers across the globe. Every wallpaper can be downloaded for free and comes in two versions: one with a calendar and one without.
Please note:
- All images are linked to a preview of the wallpaper.
- You can feature your work in our magazine by taking part in our desktop wallpaper calendar series. We are regularly looking for creative designers and artists to feature on Smashing Magazine. Are you one of them?
This month, we’ve been literally smashed by the explosion of your desktop wallpaper calendars. So look out, February 2009, we’re coming!
Moon Dreams
“Here is my moon schedule calendar for February 2009. A moon phase for every day, because since ancient times people have always known about the moon cycle and how it affects human behavior. When the moon is full or new, people can be extremely sensitive and show some big changes in their mood and behavior. That is why I wanted to create something fun and useful at the same time. I called it “Moon Dreams.’” Designed by Yana Foltice.

“Rather than taking the clichéd route of a Valentine’s Day theme, I went with something a bit more different. My original intent was to show something unique but bring in some colors that reflected the romantic essence of February. Winter Sun
“On one of my trips back home to southern Germany I was out in the countryside on a beautiful sunny late winter day. The landscape was just magnificent, with the sparkling snow in the mid-day sun. I took the picture with my digital camera when the horse appeared because it really shows how small we are in proportion to these majestic mountains. From the picture, I created the artwork for the desktop. Hope you all enjoy! ” Designed by Brigitte DiBenedetto of USA and Germany.

“This abstract piece of art was created using a single shape, a triangle. If you look close enough, you’ll notice that everything is made up of the same triangle, though in different sizes and orientations (this is called fractal art). Not Happy Valentine
“‘Not Happy Valentine’ is the downside of the February 14, when everything is hearts and love. Unfortunately, that day is painful for many people because of the trade. I recalled the frantic search for her elsewhere.” Designed by Diego of Argentina.
Scratchy Desk
“By trade I do 3D animation, but I have a traditional 2D background, and I know good art comes from fresh ideas. I wanted to do something different with this piece and do some digital graffiti on a wooden desktop. I set about trying to make my love-filled doodles and text-scratchy goodness look like it was done either with blue biro, red biro or plain scratches. I would love to make an animation out of this!” Designed by Daniel Sweeney of England.

Your Last Chance: Join In Next Month!
We respect the ideas and motivations behind an artist’s work, which is why we give artists full freedom to explore their creativity and express their emotions and experiences through their work. The designs of these wallpapers weren’t in any way influenced by us, but rather were created from scratch by the artists themselves.
Thanks to all the designers for participating. Join in next month (please note that it’s your last chance to feature your desktop wallpaper on Smashing Magazine)! And have a smashing February, folks!

I like this web page because it show us of different designers from different places of the World. Also, these people share their amazing Knowelge in their designs with ideas, combination of colors, illustrations, styles of typography (calligraphy), galleries, layouts, and other styles of designs which only Smashing Magazine might show us in its calendars.
I would like to see you continue with this great project because you have potential to get more sucess with your designs.

February 26th, 2009 3:03 pmWhyyyyyyyyyyyy????? this is one of the greatest things on your site, and I think a lot of us heard about this site on the first place because of your calendar contest. As a matter of fact, I thing it brings a lot of visitors looking for cool wallpapers, so if money is a problem, you could put more ads (I don’t mind the ads if I’m getting so many good wallpapers ;) ).
