Weird, Confusing and Irritating Photography
We daily come across with so many photos some of them are good while some are not happening. Some photos are so ordinary that you hardly keep them in mind while some of the photos are simply outstanding and awesome pieces of photography that you reminisce them again and again, and just wonder how photographer has taken such a beautiful picture. You always summon up these photos to muster some clue that how these photos have been taken.
Here we are sharing photos that can boggle your mind. Some of the photos among them are perplexing and mystifying. So are you ready to get bewildered?
Weird, Confusing and Irritating Photos

“It never ceases to amaze me the different colours and effects you can achieve in a boring concrete R.C.P drain.”
Sea in the sea
Incredible scenery. Apparently, the shot was made on the boat in the middle of the sea.
AmsterS@m The Wicked Reflectah
“Old School Beauty BMW reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam…no Photoshop, as usual, just some added saturation and contrast.”

March 29th, 2009 9:56 pmI think timing and composition are two prime factors for clicking these kind of photographs…Kudos to all those master minds who were behind the camera and smashingmagazine for making such a nice collection.

March 29th, 2009 11:18 pmQuite a few weird and amazing photos, but they just look like the photographers were out of ideas and they pushed themselves to find some. Sometimes the best photos come out unintentionally by the beauty of inner inspiration and motivation.

March 30th, 2009 7:04 amHey, remember when you wrote about web design? Or at the very least, techniques in digital art? For weeks, you’ve been going the absurdly lazy route and doing tons of meaningless “gallery” posts about photography that’s irrelevant to web design as a whole.
Somebody please take this site back to its roots. One relevant post a week is better than five that suck.
Smashing Editorial
March 30th, 2009 7:26 am@Angry (#35): we try to cover various fields in our magazine. One of them is Inspiration. Please feel free to take a look at the front page and see that last week we had a number of web design-related posts.

March 30th, 2009 9:02 pmVery interesting collection.
Just out of curiosity, how on earth did the 1st paragraph of text that introduces this piece get past the editors of SM? That is atrocious english. I understand if the author does not speak English as a first language, that’s fine, but somebody at SM could have taken about 20 seconds to rewrite that first paragraph. Very disappointing to see something like that — considering SM is obviously doing quite well and can afford proper copy editing.

March 31st, 2009 7:05 am@ Louis – I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’ve been very annoyed at the lack of rewrites on this site lately. ESL is one thing, but come on. If I were to write in Spanish I would hope that a Spanish editor would give me some help. I would need it badly.
Weird, Confusing and Irritating Photography is a totally subjective title. As the comments attest, what someone finds “irritating” could be great to someone else. I have no issue with photography articles, in fact I think they very much belong on a web design focused site. If you are going to title an article as a critique, fine – I could use more thoughtful analysis as to why that’s the case. I’m all for creative counterpoint but this really falls short of that.

April 1st, 2009 4:36 amEh. The majority of these photos are not even photography, but extreme post-processing and graphic design. The only photo that truly does anything for me is the “Fish Face” – an example of actual photography – which is perfectly composed, witty, and interesting.
I’m sorry, but most of this stuff just looks like emo/hipster I’m-trying-so-hard-to-deconstruct-art-and-make-a-message crap that you see every day. There’s nothing exciting or inspiring about it. Give me talented photographers who can capture the beauty and/or chaos of reality, or who can frame a great idea (like with “Fish Face”), and forget these Photoshop-addicted wannabes.

April 3rd, 2009 6:48 pmThese are just awful and not very creative. I think that’s what makes them irritating, we expect more and get less.

April 7th, 2009 8:09 amForgive my (very very) poor english…
“Sea in the sea” was just made with an different angle of mirror, not necessarly made from an boat.
“Sea in the sea” foi feito só com um angulo diferente do espelho, não necessariamente feito a partir de um barco.

April 30th, 2009 10:10 amPhotoshopped.
I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.
Jason Rydquist
May 2nd, 2009 12:56 pmAs one of the photographers featured and a friend of some of the others, I feel that I should respond to the claims of heavy manipulation and post processing. For the most part, the manipulation or trickery you’re seeing has been done in front of the lens by hand without the crutch of Photoshop.
Sure, some of the work rests on the border of design and photography, but does that make it pretentious or irritating? Surely nobody thinks that about Strom Thorgerson’s album covers.
I can’t speak for everybody—Hermin Abramovitch clearly pastes things into his photos to make them more interesting—but I’m motivated by visualizing intangible ideas often only expressed through words or capturing what is overlooked in daily life, not just sensationalizing little things.

May 7th, 2009 4:46 pm@Jason Rydquist
If you like what you create, then you’ve done your job, haven’t you? While I understand your desire to clear up any misunderstandings about manipulation and post-processing, you’re not going to convince people who don’t like these photos in particular, or this style of art in general, to change their preferences.
Contrary to your claim, I’m sure that there are people who do find Storm Thorgerson’s artwork irritating. I personally like most of his album covers, although not all. The cover of The Cranberries’ Bury the Hatchet feels too forced for me, while I love the relative simplicity of his artwork for Umphrey’s McGee’s Safety in Numbers.
Oftentimes? Yes.
And some photographers and/or graphic designers can make this work. Many, however, just come across as trying too hard to be deconstructive and relevant. I prefer my art to be more sincere than that.
