Today we are glad to release “Toys”, a retro icon set that was designed by Helen Gkizi and released with Smashing Magazine for its readers. The set contains 9 “toys” icons (png, 128×128px) that may come in handy in a variety of settings – e.g. in projects related to children and family.

The files are transparent PNGs, and the source file (.eps) is included as well. As always, the set is completely free and may be used for any private or commercial project without any restrictions whatsoever.

    1st Comment.
Anyway, This doesn’t meet my expectations. How I could integrate these in my website, I don’t know.

I’d like to see some icons that I can use for my mac, or basically, some icons I can use on my website.

I don’t think I can find a use for these, sorry.

I would like to see some more icons for web applications. There icons are nice, but just nice. As the first comment says, I don’t know where I can use them, maybe on a kindergarten website.

Do you people also search the Free section on Craigslist and send emails to the posters saying things like “Nice couch, but I don’t have any place for it in my living room. Please post a free TV.”?

@Ed: What I’m meaning is that I expected to see content for general usage, not for particular one. For example: on how many web sites/applications you can use a set of icons like the ones from here, for example : Free icon sets , in contrast with this set. I just hope SM is going the right way.

To those that want generic web icons : There are already a lot out there, more are not really needed. If you want more create them yourselves. While these are niche I think it would be harder to find an icon set that does this already.

This is perfect. This doesn’t need to be an icon. instead of that we can use for another purpose. (person who can think can use this very nicely)

So thank you soooo much. This is really a cool set of toys.

Any ways, thanks for the sweet icons. And in the case that i never use them, they are a great inspiration and very well done.

Why would you consider these retro toys?
I grew up with these toys (I’m 20) and my sisters child still does (about a year old) and we’re not some end-of-the-world family (yes we do have computers and a tv :P!).
Do kids nowerdays need to grow up with a PSP?
Does a 7-year old need to have an iPhone?

    Anyway thanks for the icons!
