Desktop Wallpaper Calendar: July 2009

Desktop wallpapers can serve as an excellent source of inspiration. However, if you use some specific wallpaper for a long period of time, it becomes harder to draw inspiration out of it. That’s why we have decided to supply you with smashing wallpapers over 12 months.

And to make them a little bit more distinctive from the usual crowd, we’ve decided to embed calendars for the upcoming month. So if you need to look up some date, isn’t it better to show off a nice wallpaper with a nice calendar instead of launching some default time application?

This post features 40 free desktop wallpapers, created by designers across the globe. Both versions with a calendar and without a calendar can be downloaded for free.

Please notice:

  • all images can be clicked and lead to the preview of the wallpaper;
  • you can feature your work in our magazine by taking part in our desktop wallpaper calendar series. We are regularly looking for creative designers and artists to be featured on Smashing Magazine. Are you one of them?

So what wallpapers have we received for July 2009?

    Cathedral Graphic Design

    July 1st, 2009 12:12 pm

I agree with The_Reveller: this set isn’t such hot stuff as it could be, plenty of bland submissions – but if you don’t think it’s up to par, make some great ones for everyone, show your skills, and get your name on people’s desktops with some exceptional work! :D I would like to do one for August or Sept, I’m not sure if I’ll have the time though – making something to distribute free doesn’t take the priority over clients and other important parts of life, but think of it as free advertising for your design ability! :D Can’t wait to see next month’s inspired collection!

Edit: Yes, I’m beginning to work on one so I’m not a complete hypocrite :P and if it slips to back-burner status sometime this month I’ll submit it for the month after that!

Summer Fun is my choice this month. Thank you for the great art and calendars. I really enjoy seeing them here each month.

  8. 108

I like a lot of these…however, I really don’t want the calendar. Are there calendar-free ones somewhere…or would that just go against the project itself? Like asking for Italian dressing on a Caesar salad? That happened to me one time when I was waiting tables through college.

I wasn’t trying to make an obvious reference to fourth of July, because this site isn’t only for Americans, so I didn’t want to discourage anyone from using mine. :)

I really liked “just july” BUT the calendar is missing the 31st. Sorry can’t use a bad calendar. OOPS…. the comment on the picture talk about it having 31 days.

All the calendars are really original and the pictures are GREAT. I’ve switched to firefly.

    “Room”
But where are the PSD files the designer mentioned?

    0
  29. 129

It’s been so long since I’ve seen something worthy in these selections. I mean, some are good, but nothing outstanding.

On a side note, no offense, but the person who sent a wallpaper of his/her baby, has nothing to do here. There’s no “smashing” value in that image and it’s not interesting for anybody besides the baby’s family.

    Cafundó for me this month

As a resident of the southern hemisphere some wall paper that reflects the season we are experiencing would be nice.

Some more great designs, as usual. Would have been nice to see some more winter designs in the list as well as the summer ones. Maybe I will have to put in a winter one for August. :-)

  35. 135

most of them are nice and it s hard to say which particular one is the best, maybe “rating” is a better way for us to express our feeling…

It is the first time I havent found something I like… In past months i couldn’t decide which one to use, but this time I can only give my compliments to a few designers… The rest of the wallpapers are just not the quality I’ve used to see on Smashing Magazine… they are not bad but they are not SMASHING…

    0
  43. 143

It’s a shame I have to edit out the flasing red logo every time, it messes up the design. Could it be possible to also offer versions without the logo? :)

“Magic Forest” is the only one that I find appealing.

I can recognize the talent in “When The Day Comes”, though not my cup of tea… the rest aren’t really worthy of being on a design Website in my opinion.

To: 73. Vanilla Man (June 30th, 2009, 11:46 pm) so nice, but it’s a pity that now ALL of them widescreen only ((
    —————————
Er, seriously? Most of them have regular sizes, too. I’m seeing lots with 1024×768, etc. And to the rest of the negative people, I question your desire to be so negative. If you don’t like the selection, look somewhere else, or, better yet, make your own. Geesh. These people put a lot of work into their wallpapers, regardless if you like them or not. Try to be polite instead of being jerks.

JUST JULY – Very cool, however, i only noticed it now ( end of the month! ) but where it reads ” July ,,is the seventh month… with the length of 31 days”
Um, True, but the day counter indicates 30 days. I know its a SLIGHT mishap, but I think its these TINY details that make or break designs when dealing with graphics and the content of this website.
