Each year, thousands of developers, designers, and programmers from around the world gather together at conferences and events to share ideas, promote the latest technologies, and discuss best practices, standards, and emerging trends in their respective fields. For those of us who have had the privilege to participate in one or more of those events, we likely received valuable information that had a profound effect on our progress as web professionals.

In this article, I’ve attempted to gather together a comprehensive list of web development and graphic design-related conferences and events that developers and designers can use as a reference to find out where and when the latest of such of events will be taking place. I’ve tried to ensure that the event descriptions and links are as general as possible, allowing this list to stay relevant for as long as possible.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to include every pertinent event. So if there is anything relevant missing, please comment below and we’ll try to add it to the list. Also, if any of the information is incorrect or out of date, you can contact me using the bio information at the bottom of this article, and we’ll make any necessary corrections.

The list, which includes a brief description plus location, is divided into the following categories:

    Hi guys !

Thanks a lot for this great listing. I would like to let you know that we have created with some friends an event called “Paris web” since 4 years. As the titled says, it does take place in Paris each year, especially at IBM, La Défense, Pais.

We started to make this cycle of conferences since we found there was a lack of french ressources around. For french readers, you may find the information on our website: http://www.paris-web.fr/

Our baseline is “Quality, webdesign and accessibility” and we try to cover relevant subjects related to the front-end environment.

During two days of conferences and a day of workshop, we received around 500 peoples including speakers. People like Christian Heilmann (Yahoo!), Daniel Glazman (CSS Workgroup), Tristan Nitot (Mozilla Europe), Nicole Sullivan, Molly Holzschlag, Chris Wilson (Microsof) or Charles McCathieNevile came to speak about their related field. For sure, we also invite francophones experts speakers.

Feel free to contact me if need more explanations,

    best regards,

    Adrien Leygues – Founder

That was only a coincidence. The list was not meant to be time-specific for any of the events. But it is common to see a number of events taking place in the fall, so there are quite a few taking place around this time or very soon.

The purpose of the list was to present as many important conferences as possible, covering a wide variety of industries related to web development, without mentioning dates, that way the list could stay fairly relevant for a long time, event after 2009-10.

    Regarding SXSW:

I didn’t include it because it’s a “Film, Music & Interactive” festival, and didn’t seem like it fit the list. But I probably should have included in the “technology” section, linking specifically to the “SXSW Interactive” page.

I definitely think you should include HighEdWeb. It’s the National Conference for Higher Education Web Professionals. I noticed you put in eduweb and edUi. HighEdWeb is bigger than both of those conferences by far and has more higher education web developers and designers. I went to the conference a few weeks ago in Milwaukee and am planning to attend the 2010 event (10-10-10) in Cincinnati, OH.

I think you should include it:
