Desktop Wallpaper Calendar: November 2009
Desktop wallpapers can serve as an excellent source of inspiration. However, if you use some specific wallpaper for a long period of time, it becomes harder to draw inspiration out of it. That’s why we have decided to supply you with smashing wallpapers over 12 months.
And to make them a little bit more distinctive from the usual crowd, we’ve decided to embed calendars for the upcoming month. So if you need to look up some date, isn’t it better to show off a nice wallpaper with a nice calendar instead of launching some default time application?
This post features 60 free desktop wallpapers, created by designers across the globe. Both versions with a calendar and without a calendar can be downloaded for free.
Please notice:
- all images can be clicked and lead to the preview of the wallpaper;
- you can feature your work in our magazine by taking part in our desktop wallpaper calendar series. We are regularly looking for creative designers and artists to be featured on Smashing Magazine. Are you one of them?
So what wallpapers have we received for November 2009?

Alzheimer’s Awareness
“Each year in November, Alzheimer’s Awareness month takes place all over the country. I chose this theme because of a family member who has been battling this disease since 2002. I love how she keeps fighting even though each day gets tougher in her life. I love and care about her very much and is always in my heart everyday. I hope the viewers can relate to my experience and understand that this is a very serious disease. Also, I want viewers go out make a difference for a loved one even if it is research, donating, or taking part in a community event for a good cause.” Designed by Matthew Jerauld from United States.

For me, this month was the absolute best collection of wallpaper since early on in 2009. Some very solid contributors with great work and solid vectors and fun images. Definitely what a November should be on the desktop.

Lovely Collection! I loved many of them! Thinking which ones to download first!
- 16October 31st, 2009 6:52 pm
I think I’d prefer that there weren’t any “pinup girls” in the monthly calendars. >.> They’re kind of offensive to many.
- 17November 2nd, 2009 6:40 am
Your name links to a furry web site and you find pinup girls offensive?!
- 18November 10th, 2009 9:39 pm
Jared Spurbeck, you are a bad intolerant netizen. If you are “offended” by some of the wallpapers here, then don’t come here anymore. Your loss, not ours.
Aside from Jared, cheers to everyone for the great designs! Dual Monitors and 320×480! Yey!
My special mention goes to:
GIVE TANKS (Valerie Morgan -Для родины!)
BLESS YOU ZEBRA (Drew Gilchrist)
JIMI HENDRIX TRIBUTE (Kevin Harrison -rock on!)
BONFIRE (Yipori)
SEASONAL CHANGE (Alexandra Ipate)
CHAMELEON BREAK-UP (Eli, Stefan and Xenia)
EYECANDY (Justin Wright)Will be using MONSTER NOVEMBER (SixLightYears) for my staid work PC, N FOR NOVEMBER (Qayum Khan) for my shiny-new home desktop, LONELINESS (Raru) for my emo notebook, DOODLES (Pietje Precies) for my poor battered phone, and sent NEW MOON (eewww) to my Twilight-obsessed niece.
Oh, btw, no commemorative wallpapers for our poor veterans (US, European, Asian, whatever)?

I decided to go with doodles. I really like the calendars that don’t take any work to look at. Doodles was a great option for me. Can’t wait till next month. I think I’ll submit mine.
- 22October 31st, 2009 9:07 pm
Its is surprising to me that there was only one calendar that made any mention of Rememberance Day / Armistace Day.
Virtually the whole world commemorates it in one form or another as a tribute to those who have served our respective nations in combat and allow us to this day to enjoy the freedom we now have.
Sad to see that from a great cross section of designs from so many people in so many country’s that no one else thought to include it.
Congrats to Autumn Colours (Ducky Design) for your calendar.

Thanks for publishing my wallpaper. I’m honored.
@Jared Spurbeck why do you think not really naked is offensive to anyone? If I’m not offended (and picture is based on my own appearance) nobody should be.

Why the “November Snowboarding” is not 1280×1024!
It’s very bad!
Хочу нормального разрешения!!!))) - 89November 2nd, 2009 7:26 am
Jimi Hendrix gets my vote! AWESOME artwork!
- 90November 2nd, 2009 7:28 am
the chameleon one and the eye-candy were right up my alley humor wise but i picked the berlin wall as my desktop. i think that was a pretty important moment in our history. i also forwarded the twilight one to an obsessed friend. i may not understand it, but spread the love i guess! r.
- 91November 2nd, 2009 7:48 am
Awesome work!!! I like them all

These wallpapers keep getting better and better. I generally prefer the abstract designs. Normally there are one or two that jump out at me but this month I can’t decide between about 7 of them! Does anyone know of a Vista program that will let you rotate backgrounds?
- 96November 2nd, 2009 10:23 am
Hi! Wow! There are a lot of nice calendars this month as usual. I’m a French-Canadien and it’s cold early this fall. So my prefered this time is “Seasonal change – the transition from autumn to winter just like pages in a book…” Designed by Alexandra Ipate from Romania. I took Romania for October too. Good job!
- 97November 2nd, 2009 11:01 am
note: the calendar on Javier Castillo’s ‘To November’ is actually day fast (the second jumping a whole week from the first!) – danger.
love that red, though.- 98November 3rd, 2009 2:13 pm
Thanks for the comment, not time for excuses, but if you fix the error, thank you very much

I like Mother Earth this month – it puts things in perspective.
- 104November 2nd, 2009 3:00 pm
lovethem, as usual. My only suggestion would be not forget those who live down here. I mean, it’s almost summer here, i don’t want a winter wallpaper =)
BTW, love the design. Keep the good work.

Hi,
is it possible to zip all calendar motives into one zip file for downloading? Because with the new Windows 7 it’s possible to mark multiple files to show them in a slideshow as desktop wallpaper.
Because downloading every single wallpaper isn’t very comfortable =)
Perhaps every resolution in one zip archive will be great for monthly releases! :) - 112November 3rd, 2009 6:48 am
This is really very nice wallpapers……..
- 113November 3rd, 2009 8:04 am

Wow. great wallpaper! :D
- 142November 11th, 2009 12:51 pm
You all are some talented mo’ fo’s. I hope some of that design skill rubs off on me! (that’s why I hang around you all..)
- 143November 12th, 2009 10:11 pm
There’s some good work here, but there’s also a lot of amateurish designs up there. I know you don’t want to alienate anybody, but you should really filter these, because it’s a real turn off to find crappy work along the way.
- 144November 14th, 2009 1:40 am
There’s some awesome variety here this month, love it! I’ll have to agree with the others, though… it’s not autumn everywhere, and we don’t actually celebrate Thanksgiving here.. :p
There’s too many to mention that I like, but I especially like the one of the Berlin Wall (very original), and the Halucinogen Sunset calendar. Great job to all the designers!
- 145November 18th, 2009 4:12 pm

A nice collection of work on calender but disappointing for me as my work is not showcased in this month. I participated in the November calender but unfortunately…
anyways… better luck next time :)
