Desktop Wallpaper Calendar: November 2009

Desktop wallpapers can serve as an excellent source of inspiration. However, if you use some specific wallpaper for a long period of time, it becomes harder to draw inspiration out of it. That’s why we have decided to supply you with smashing wallpapers over 12 months.

And to make them a little bit more distinctive from the usual crowd, we’ve decided to embed calendars for the upcoming month. So if you need to look up some date, isn’t it better to show off a nice wallpaper with a nice calendar instead of launching some default time application?

This post features 60 free desktop wallpapers, created by designers across the globe. Both versions with a calendar and without a calendar can be downloaded for free.

Please notice:

  • all images can be clicked and lead to the preview of the wallpaper;
  • you can feature your work in our magazine1 by taking part in our desktop wallpaper calendar series. We are regularly looking for creative designers and artists to be featured on Smashing Magazine. Are you one of them?

So what wallpapers have we received for November 2009?

    Creative November

  7. 9

Nice collection! Especially towards the end :)

  8. 10

For me, this month was the absolute best collection of wallpaper since early on in 2009. Some very solid contributors with great work and solid vectors and fun images. Definitely what a November should be on the desktop.

Cutout is my choise this month ;)

  10. 12

Definitely one of the best in 2009. I’m glad that only the cream of the crop were chosen :)

Good work designers – keep those masterpieces coming in!

  11. 13

This month wallpapers are so cool! Thank you for accepting mine’s , next month i’ll definitely send some more.
    Good job all designers!

  12. 14

Really good selection this month, thanks!

  13. 15

Lovely Collection! I loved many of them! Thinking which ones to download first!

  14. 16

I think I’d prefer that there weren’t any “pinup girls” in the monthly calendars. >.> They’re kind of offensive to many.

    • 17

Your name links to a furry web site and you find pinup girls offensive?!

    • 18

Jared Spurbeck, you are a bad intolerant netizen. If you are “offended” by some of the wallpapers here, then don’t come here anymore. Your loss, not ours.

Aside from Jared, cheers to everyone for the great designs! Dual Monitors and 320×480! Yey!

      My special mention goes to:

GIVE TANKS (Valerie Morgan -Для родины!)
      BLESS YOU ZEBRA (Drew Gilchrist)
JIMI HENDRIX TRIBUTE (Kevin Harrison -rock on!)
      BONFIRE (Yipori)
      SEASONAL CHANGE (Alexandra Ipate)
CHAMELEON BREAK-UP (Eli, Stefan and Xenia)
      EYECANDY (Justin Wright)

Will be using MONSTER NOVEMBER (SixLightYears) for my staid work PC, N FOR NOVEMBER (Qayum Khan) for my shiny-new home desktop, LONELINESS (Raru) for my emo notebook, DOODLES (Pietje Precies) for my poor battered phone, and sent NEW MOON (eewww) to my Twilight-obsessed niece.

Oh, btw, no commemorative wallpapers for our poor veterans (US, European, Asian, whatever)?

  15. 19

    The sneezing Zebra FTW!

  16. 20

I love all the wallpapers with the turkey theme and the bonding is also nice with the jelly fishes.

  17. 21

I decided to go with doodles. I really like the calendars that don’t take any work to look at. Doodles was a great option for me. Can’t wait till next month. I think I’ll submit mine.

  18. 22

Its is surprising to me that there was only one calendar that made any mention of Rememberance Day / Armistace Day.

Virtually the whole world commemorates it in one form or another as a tribute to those who have served our respective nations in combat and allow us to this day to enjoy the freedom we now have.

Sad to see that from a great cross section of designs from so many people in so many country’s that no one else thought to include it.

Congrats to Autumn Colours (Ducky Design) for your calendar.

  19. 23

Thanks so much for adding my wallpaper :D i´m really happy about!

There are so many beautiful wallpapers… don´t know which one i should take for my desktop :)

  23. 27

Nice! I’ll be switching between Halucinogen, Mother Earth and November Glow. Kudos to the great work done by all the creatives!

  24. 29

Thanks for publishing my wallpaper. I’m honored.

@Jared Spurbeck why do you think not really naked is offensive to anyone? If I’m not offended (and picture is based on my own appearance) nobody should be.

  25. 30

    Awesome, nice collection this month.

  52. 62

There are some awesome ones here…. but that twilight one…. not gunna lie it’s pretty bad…. and that has nothing to do with the fact that im not a fan of the vampy series… but that it’s not very well put together

  71. 83

Number one criticism, too many thanksgiving ones, we’re not all american. Number two, twighlight cut and paste fan art? are you kidding? No Jonas Brothers or Hanna Montana montages this month? Disappointing, this isn’t deviant art.

    Хочу нормального разрешения!!!)))

  77. 89

Jimi Hendrix gets my vote! AWESOME artwork!

  78. 90

the chameleon one and the eye-candy were right up my alley humor wise but i picked the berlin wall as my desktop. i think that was a pretty important moment in our history. i also forwarded the twilight one to an obsessed friend. i may not understand it, but spread the love i guess! r.

  79. 91

Awesome work!!! I like them all

  80. 92

I found just one wallpaper for myself “Nigh” but it has wrong dates :(

  81. 95

These wallpapers keep getting better and better. I generally prefer the abstract designs. Normally there are one or two that jump out at me but this month I can’t decide between about 7 of them! Does anyone know of a Vista program that will let you rotate backgrounds?

  82. 96

Hi! Wow! There are a lot of nice calendars this month as usual. I’m a French-Canadien and it’s cold early this fall. So my prefered this time is “Seasonal change – the transition from autumn to winter just like pages in a book…” Designed by Alexandra Ipate from Romania. I took Romania for October too. Good job!

  83. 97

note: the calendar on Javier Castillo’s ‘To November’ is actually day fast (the second jumping a whole week from the first!) – danger.
    love that red, though.

I like Mother Earth this month – it puts things in perspective.

  89. 104

lovethem, as usual. My only suggestion would be not forget those who live down here. I mean, it’s almost summer here, i don’t want a winter wallpaper =)

BTW, love the design. Keep the good work.

  90. 105

these are some really great wallpapers. I couldn’t really choose which one to use, but I went for ‘bonding’ – those cure yellyfish!

All of the designers did an amazing job!

is it possible to zip all calendar motives into one zip file for downloading? Because with the new Windows 7 it’s possible to mark multiple files to show them in a slideshow as desktop wallpaper.

Because downloading every single wallpaper isn’t very comfortable =)
Perhaps every resolution in one zip archive will be great for monthly releases! :)

  97. 112

This is really very nice wallpapers……..

    Bless You Zebra!

  126. 141

    Wow. great wallpaper! :D

  127. 142

You all are some talented mo’ fo’s. I hope some of that design skill rubs off on me! (that’s why I hang around you all..)

  128. 143

There’s some good work here, but there’s also a lot of amateurish designs up there. I know you don’t want to alienate anybody, but you should really filter these, because it’s a real turn off to find crappy work along the way.

  129. 144

There’s some awesome variety here this month, love it! I’ll have to agree with the others, though… it’s not autumn everywhere, and we don’t actually celebrate Thanksgiving here.. :p

There’s too many to mention that I like, but I especially like the one of the Berlin Wall (very original), and the Halucinogen Sunset calendar. Great job to all the designers!

  130. 145
