Glassical: A Free WordPress Theme
We love our readers. We respect the hard work of designers and developers across the globe. And we do our best to make the web design community stronger and the Web a little bit prettier. Therefore we ask talented artists and creative professionals to showcase their skills and release something unique and beautiful as a gift to the community. And when designers agree, impressive works see the light of day.
Today we are glad to release Glassical — a free professional Wordpress-theme created by Abdullah Ibrahim. This theme was designed with the main focus being on typography, clean look and simplicity. Hopefully, you will be able to use it in your projects or at least use it as a foundation for your next projects. The theme is released especially for Smashing Magazine and its readers.

The theme is released under GPL. You can use it for all your projects for free and without any restrictions. Please link to this article if you would like to spread the word. You may modify the theme as you wish. The theme supports the WordPress 2.8 nested comment system and it is also customized for the WP Pagenavi plugin. Also, Cufón is used for embedding the Nevis font into the theme.

I really appreciate that you guys give this things away for free, and this is beautiful as always…
but is there anyway we could get some for Drupal? It seems there is more of a dire need for Drupal themes then WP (even if it’s less popular) because there are less good ones out there…Thanks SM!

I like the theme but it looks like Twitter-inspired theme. The color scheme and layout looks like a Twitter blog to me.

Love it, clean crisp lay-out. An excellent starting point for developers, but also great for people who are just looking for a simple theme.

This is a nice clean theme, I like it. Though it has a few validation errors out of the gate (9) The good news, it only took 3 fixes to correct them.
1. In the sidebar.php file there is an erroneous closing h3 tag for an opening h2 tag (above “archives”) I think
2. Then also in sidebar.php the ad image does not have an alt attribute.
3. Then in header.php there is also a missing alt attribute for the rss icon in the main nav bar.

In the footer.php on lline 18 you will find
Cufon.replace(’h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6′);Delete this line and you’re done.

You will note have Nevis font, but it’s the price for the moment to display titles with special characters. I’m waiting help on Cufon to solve this probleme by another way. I have just delete the problem, i’m not solving it ..

Hey great theme, thank you. However, it looks awful in IE6 & IE7 (didn’t test IE8) as well as in safari. BTW I only viewed the theme from the demo link on those browsers.

I don’t see what the big deal is about the theme. Yes it’s simple and clean. But is it “awesome” or “wow, I’m stunned” ? What makes it so?
Also, the use of the word Elegant is getting slightly overused when talking about design, yes?.Me shrugs.

great Theme. Very good work. But I have a slightly problem. If I try to comment a post I get a blank screen and the comment is not saved. My Wordpress-Installation is in the subfolder /wordpress. If I copy the Wordpress-Folder and files to the Root-Directory all works fine.
Anybody knows this problem?

I had the same problem and was able to fix it. I’m not sure if this is the cleanest way but here goes…
my blog was in a subdirectory, ie mydomain.com/blog. On line 67 of comments.php inside the theme i changed
to
I’m not sure if you can do the same with subdomains but it works for subdirectories.

Hi Mike,
I think this is time when we should ditch this IE 6. Being a developer, I find it very hard to make a website very hard that is compatible with all IEs.
Only broken websites can make users upgrade to IE 7 or 8..

This theme seems to be lacking the <?php wp_footer(); ?> and the Recent Posts & Recent Comments widgets are aligned to the right. But nice theme by the way.

Seems like, something went wrong when you were uploading the theme. Try reuploading the theme.
