November 14th, 2009 5:28 amMagento theme ?? For free ? That’s awesome. Magento is really getting more and more spread. Noticed you use Magento for your pre-sale book when I ordered it ;)

November 14th, 2009 6:12 amNice, but why give away something that only a few people can use?
Smashing Editorial
November 14th, 2009 6:15 amWhy so? The theme can serve as a solid foundation for your next projects, isn’t it?

November 18th, 2009 2:40 amOfcourse, but when a freebie has a connection to a company trying to sell a product I’m always a little suspicious…
But hey, never mind me, I’m just an old fart. Keep up your good work! :-)

November 14th, 2009 6:57 amThanks, there are so few good _free_ Magento themes around. It’s such a great shopping cart too.

November 14th, 2009 7:50 amActually anyone can use it, you don’t have to keep it in Magento. I’ll toss a copy of Magento onto our test server, install this and then scrape the entire thing into raw HTML. After that it’s about an hours work to make it a Joomla/Virtuemart template. Though I think I might use the opportunity to get some time in on Zen-Cart.

November 14th, 2009 8:18 amFor a free theme it’s a great freebie. As with any serious business though a tailored bespoke solution is always best. For new startups however this seems perfect.

November 14th, 2009 9:57 amGreat Free theme. I even love the free opportunity to BUY the plugin to make it work like the theme is supposed to.
Its a sharp theme indeed, but not so impressive without the plugin. So its not so free.

November 14th, 2009 1:05 pmBig Ups, SM!
I may find a use for this, or I may not. Either way, I like seeing “Free High-Quality” themes that are not just for WordPress.

November 14th, 2009 1:57 pmThanks for this theme. It would be nice if there were more high-quality themes like this available for other platforms, rather than “just” WordPress and Blogger.

November 14th, 2009 4:55 pmI had an issue with the Search Box not displaying properly. For whatever reason, the header.phtml template file was trying to echo a single line of PHP code using <?= … ?> (which I have disabled on my Production Server) instead of <?php echo … ?> .
To fix that, run this diff patch from the document root of your Magento install:
http://bsdeviant.org/mirror/sigyn-smtheme.diff
Edit: Obviously, if you don’t have an issue with the search box, then you don’t need to run this patch. If you do, and you can’t figure it out, then this will help.

November 15th, 2009 2:32 amwell…of all them free shopping solutions, Magento has the best interface, but it is rather picky when it comes to server configuration…I never made it work actually.

November 17th, 2009 8:43 amI’m so glad to see Smashing Magazine provide templates other than WordPress! While I love WordPress, there are so many more CMS and shopping carts that need the Smashing Magazine touch. Also, it’s hard to find high quality Magento themes, so I’m even happier to see this!

January 7th, 2010 1:31 amAwesome theme!
Could someone tell me how to build that menu like the one in the demo? (i.e. Home / Furniture / Clothes / Computers etc).
I’ve tried creating categories and sub-categories, but they aren’t appearing anywhere, at all. Sorry for my noob question, but I’d really appreciate your patience and help.

January 7th, 2010 5:31 amNevermind, I’ve realized the categories needed to be childs of the main default category. newbie mistake :P
Fantastic theme, nonetheless

March 11th, 2010 11:22 pmI installed this theme with Magento 1.4.0.1
The problem I have is that the only layout that works is the “1 column” layout. If I select the 2 or 3 column layouts the side graphic borders are missing and the background is transparent.
Anyone know what’s wrong? Thanks.

September 17th, 2010 10:12 amI am currently running ver 1.4.1.1, had the same issue with the Sigyn theme and inadvertently figured out this fix:
- Download ver 1.3.2.1 on to your computer.
- Navigate to magento\downloader\skin\install
inside the install folder you will find 5 css files: boxes.css, clears.css, ie7minus.css, iestyles.css, and reset.css.
- Upload those 5 css files into your server in this location:
example.com/skin/frontend/base/default/css/
Incidentally, this also fixed a couple formatting issues I was having with the main “home” navigational bar.
