interesting collection, but do you realize that the work shown by “piker77″ is a DIGITAL WATERCOLOR? That is to say, no paints or brushes were harmed in the creation of his piece. Only a mouse.
While it is quite an artistic and attractive work, let’s just not be misled.

HAHAHAHAHAA!! omg I love it when so many assholes all gather in one place to spread their asshole ways and feed off of each other’s assholeism. Good one, guys!

THAT BEING SAID, I love the work here. I don’t need to go into the subjectivity of art or the cliches that some people are seeing… every piece here made me smile or think. If you think differently and have something mean to say about this work, go post it on the pretentious blogs I’m sure you have. This work was great.

Definitely imagine that which you said. Your favourite reason seemed to be at the internet the easiest thing to remember of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people think about issues that they plainly do not understand about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest as well as outlined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will likely be again to get more. Thanks

Zebra, Girl with Thumb in her mouth takes the quality level of this list article down a couple notches. Yes, there were some very good ones that made me say “wow” but compared to the others, it boils down to another list of “ooh PRETTY” from someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Yeah, this list is crap. Did you just do a google search? It’s only half good. But the bad half makes the good half look like crap. This is a pretty transparent effort to get web traffic, and it’s insulting.

@Matt – “Customer Satisfaction” has NOTHING to do with changing one’s opinion on something, which is essentially the case here.

It’s more related to “Is something broken/not working? Let us fix it for you!” It’s being nice to your customers and making them feel like human beings, rather than just statistics.

Secondly – this blog post is NOT a “product”, it’s a person’s ( Or a few peoples ) opinion on what THEY find to be 50 beautiful watercolor paintings.

So, because they like something that you don’t, they should change it to suit you? Why do you matter so much? Is it your opinion up there in the post?

Unless you, yourself, wrote it and came up with the list, your opinion in it shouldn’t matter that much.

Like it or don’t like it, that’s your choice, but to think someone should alter THEIR OWN opinion of something just to suit YOU, is complete and total BS.

    +1
  17. 17

Ah, Matt, you make my point for me. This isn’t “customer satisfaction” at all. The point is they essentially changed their post because people made “negative” comments.

    A) Bad reason to change your post — who cares what the droves of @smashing trolling drones think about what their list says about water color?

    B) Your comment is juvenile at best. “Pull your head out of your ass?!” Really? You just said that in a reply to someone who tried to post a meaningful opinion? Wow. Welcome to my “ignore” list. Thanks for playing. If you have something insightful to say, please do share it.

    C) The whole concept of list posts is getting really, REALLY tired. Smashing, if they want to continue to be considered a leader, needs to “mature” enough to be able to withstand criticism. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Surely you have something deeper/better to offer Matt. I completely agree with Luke.

This is my first negative comment on Smashing … But if you’re going to write something that is of marginal relevance to your readers, it needs to be thoughtfully executed. This is not. Sorry.

Let’s put this behind us. You guys just keep doing what you’re good at doing (design and the internet) and I’ll keep reading and being nice in the comments.

Nice glance over. Not sure why all the snobs are complaining. Most of the works robably wouldn’t make the MoMA, but definitely worthy of a blog post and some friendly exposure.

Not sure why people continue to try to judge that which can’t be judged. Art is in the eye of the beholder.

I think the work was beautiful, some cliche but well done, some creative, moody, that’s what art is. No one said it was the Louvre, its a collection of “50 beautiful Watercolors” not 50 of the best in the world ever or anything, so I think all the negative folks should calm their bit. People are just sharing their work, those “critics” should be constructive, what techniques could be worked on, what perspectives should be changed? Don’t just complain, show us your work, show us what your creativity can create. Also, if you don’t like it so much why do some keep coming back to the board? Go back to your art book and scanner. Great work folks regardless of your art training or lack thereof, regardless of your mediums.

    +1
  26. 26

I don’t think art has to be only about novelty (addressing the claims to cliche works found in this set).

Neither does it have to be a demonstration of outstanding technical skill.

Dare I say that art should be appreciated for its beauty?

For a brief example: “neko-gato”. As cliche as an urban plaza painting can be, not to mention nothing spectacular in the paint application.

However the BEAUTY and the aesthetic of it still drives my emotions crazy. A introspective downcast palette that invokes nostalgia and antiquity.

    What do you FEEL?

    +1
  27. 27

Includes some very nice work. I would guess that the very negative comments come from jealous artists or would-be artists who can’t do as well themselves. Luke’s critique that this is so 19th century just shows his ignorance. I suppose he would say the same about Norman Rockwell. Or how about the Beatles, using all those ancient chords? They aren’t creative at all, are they Luke? I suppose you think atonal music is better? Hey Brannan “dude”, are you “for real”? For sure? My dog could make a more intelligent comment than you have. Artbizman, don’t worry, no one cares about your critique so you won’t discourage anyone. Who cares what you say? Certainly not an artist. It would be interesting to see the work of some of the negative critics, such as artbizman, so we can all judge how their work compares to the work they so arrogantly criticize. Talk is cheap. Anyone can claim to be an expert or a critic. The proof is in the artwork. So let’s see some links to your artwork, artbizman, and be sure to provide some space for feedback so we can critique your stuff. Frankly, the only thing that matters in the real world is how the art sells. I always laugh at critics who sneer at work by successful artists like McNight or Kinkade. It’s probably just jealousy that people prefer their art over the poor critic’s art. Grow up.

I’m glad you have good sense. The other posts on this thing were getting under my skin. How can artists be so critical of each other? I thought the point of art was to do whatever you felt like doing, expressing what is inside of you? I guess some people just aren’t as open as they make themselves out to be?
