Yummy! Free Food and Cakes Icon Set
Today we are glad to release something extremely tasty — Yummy Icon Set, a set with 20 beautiful, original and sweet icons in resolutions 48×48px – 128×128px and formats .png, .ico, .incs and .tif. Also, the vector source (.eps) is available for free download as well. This set was designed by our friends Iconeden and released for Smashing Magazine and its readers.

You can use the set for all of your projects for free and without any restrictions. You can freely use it for both your private and commercial projects, including software, online services, templates and themes. Please link to this article if you want to spread the word.
Behind the design
As always, here are some insights from the designer himself:
Dear Smashing Magazine readers, Xmas is coming! And we’re as excited about it as you’re. However, our inspiration comes from the work that we’re crafting everyday. And so, to double the joy, Smashing Magazine and IconEden happily announce the immediate availability of “Yummy”, our new icon set which heavily focuses on, ahem, food!
And it’s all yours. Bake it into your projects, use it in your Xmas greetings, or simply imagine yourself enjoying it! Similar to previous collections, Yummy comes in vector and pixel formats and can be immediately built into your projects at no cost. And of course, we’d love to hear from you. Do let us know what you think about Yummy by either leaving us a comment.

Why useless? I am sure that these icons can be used in various contexts: for instance, for holidays, for restaurant web sites and for any food-related posts and sites. Or am I wrong here?

I agree. However, they aren’t as universally useful as a lot of the content/freebies you normally give. In saying that… never complain when someone gives you free stuff. someday a client will come to you and say: “i really want a cake icon”. Now you’ll feel sheepish downloading this… because you were a tool and made fun of it. tsk tsk.

As we’re running a business around icon design, we’ve received quite a lot of requests and advices from the community to design icons for niches: food/restaurant, travel, hospitality, … We understand that they’re not general icons, but I’m sure that many people can find these icons useful for their works.

I often use icons when I am doing online qualitative research. They help people personalize their posts on the research platform (discussion forum / bulletin board), and help identify individuals as an avatar. This will make a great addition to the choices I can give research participants.

I have to agree with many of the other posts … never turn your nose up to a good quality freebie. Having done this for 15 years, I have found that having just the right asset for that one oddball project makes it “oh so sweet” … just like these icons :-) Thank you as always!

I haven’t visited this site in a few months but I used to be a daily visitor. WHAT HAS HAPPENED? Maybe this change was just made and is still being worked on? Or maybe somethings not loading right now that should be but if I were a first time visitor, I would leave this site immediately. For us oldies please make a way separate Smashing Magazine only content from all the user drivel. The site is smashingmagazine.com and when I come to the homepage I see only one article from you guys. As people I would respect for design philosophies and inspiration, this is truly a move that leaves me shocked.
In regards to this particular article it is one I would of skipped in the list of articles and clicked something else that was of more interest to me but I can no longer do this… apparently this is the only content that can be found on the smashingmagazine.com homepage published by smashingmagazine.com!

These are great icons and really professional. I’m looking for food icons for general food groups ad they are really hard to find in a complete set beautiful like these. I’m thinking of icons for a grocery list like Meats, Dairy, Baked goods and so on. Just as a tip for the creators.
