The Ultimate Free Web Designer’s Icon Set (750 icons, incl. PSD sources)
There are thousands of free icon sets out there, and every other day we see new sets being released by the design community. In fact, Smashing Magazine has been releasing icon sets for years now, too. But today’s release is particularly important. Over the last 1.5 years, Oliver Twardowski was designing and preparing an “ultimate web designer’s icon set” exclusively for Smashing Magazine and its readers. Today we release the third, final version of the set, an extensive pack with over 750 free icons (48×48px) for designers and Web developers. The .PSD-sources are available for free download as well.
The set consists of web application icons, user interface icons, e-commerce icons, general use icons, desktop icons, blog icons, smiley icons, button icons, keyboard icons, national flags icons, popular online services icons and many others.
Download the icon set for free!
You can use the set for all of your projects for free and without any restrictions. You can freely use it for both your private and commercial projects, including software, online services, templates and themes. The set may not be resold, sublicensed, rented, transferred or otherwise made available for use. Please link to this article if you would like to spread the word.
- preview 1 (web development, UI icons)
- preview 2 (national flags icons)
- preview 3 (keyboard icons)
- preview 4 (online services icons)
- download the icon set for free (.zip, 5.5 Mb)
- download the .PSD source files for free (.zip, 10.8 Mb)
Behind the design
As always, here are some insights from the designer himself:
“In January 2009 I released my first pixel-based iconset ‘Flavour’ right here on the Smashing Magazine. A couple of months later, in May 2009, I extended that set and released ‘Flavour Extended’. Now, over one year later it’s time to finish this set. ‘Addictive Flavour’ will be the last part of the Flavour series. (At least for now I think it will be ^_^ ).
In my releases I asked you for your feedback on the iconset and that feedback was overwhelming. I received hundreds of e-mails and read even more comments here and on Twitter. With ‘Addictive Flavour’ I hope to give you the icon set that you wanted and that you need for your web development projects. Though, if there is a special icon missing in the set that you need for your project or site, please feel free to contact me on Twitter (@mywayhome or via e-mail (icons [at] addictedotocoffee dot de) and we’ll see what we can do for you!
I want to thank all of you for your great support with this huge icon set. Especially I want to thank Magda, Lars, Martin LeBlanc, Bastian Allgeier, the team at Smashing Magazine and all of the beta-viewers who did a fantastic job on reviewing my work and giving me feedback, love and inspiration!
Please stay tuned for more of my releases here in Smashing Magazine or via my Twitter stream.
Thanks a lot, Oliver.
Thank you very much, Oliver! We appreciate your efforts.

April 15th, 2010 1:20 amA nice supplement for this icon set would be icons for game consoles and their online services. It’s already a really nice set though.

April 15th, 2010 1:26 amThat’s very generous, thanks very much. And a great set of icons too.

April 15th, 2010 1:31 amMost of these packs now are on iconfinder. I find that there is no reason to download icon packs anymore, unless working offline.

April 15th, 2010 2:09 amGreat Icon set, only bad thing is the cloud icons, they look terrible like the were quickly put together last minute, apart from them its a good set.

April 15th, 2010 9:07 amKeiron, allow me to quote from Manners 101: When receiving a gift, the gracious response is “thank you.”
Keiron Lowe
June 29th, 2010 1:02 amI am gracious for the icons, like I said the rest of the set is great but I just dont beleive the few icons I mentioned were up to the standard of the others.

April 15th, 2010 2:14 amThanks. Very nice and useful :)
Rizqi Djamaluddin
April 15th, 2010 2:15 amAm I right to assume we’re allowed to modify them, at least on a small scale? Some are of less contrast/saturation then I’d prefer for my projects, but some quick color correction can fix that I think.
In any case, great set, especially the keyboard ones in particular for me. We all appreciate the hard work!
Oliver
April 15th, 2010 2:29 amHi Rizqi,
that’s totally right. The .psd sources are there to learn and customize.
If you modify the icons I would love to see the results! :)
Just sent me a quick reply on twitter (@mywayhome).
Thanks,
Oliver
Rizqi Djamaluddin
April 15th, 2010 8:15 amAnd thanks for the reply too, now I can start toying with them in peace. I’ll let you know if I come up with anything interesting by twitter, then. It’s great to be able to interact with the artists themselves, instead of just holding an icon set.

April 15th, 2010 2:17 amExcellent work, thank you very much.

Oliver

April 15th, 2010 3:35 amWHERE IS UKRAINIAN FLAG?
I BELIEVE THAN COUNTRY WITH 48 MIL POPULATION CAN’T BE IGNORED?
Oliver
April 15th, 2010 3:51 amDid I forget it??? Really???? Shame on me!
Here it is for you: http://cl.ly/Nzv
Can you forgive me? :)
Best wishes, Oliver
Yura
April 15th, 2010 6:29 amThanks, you’re awesome :)
Igor
April 15th, 2010 12:45 pmof course forgive :)
Thanks for icon
LC
April 15th, 2010 5:07 amOh yes it can, posts in caps lock as well :)
Yura
April 15th, 2010 5:19 amI thought exactly the same.
And, LC, 48 million people are not to blame for one guy expressing his WTF in all-caps.
As awesome as the set looked to me at first sight, I was disappointed when I didn’t see my country’s flag. I don’t see a point in an incomplete flag collection.
Oliver
April 15th, 2010 5:51 amI am really sorry if I missed your country. I really did not want to miss any.
I mean – hey – I even got the Vatican flag there!
If I missed one: Please tell me and I’ll provide the link to the .png file when it’s done. Promise! :)
Thanks, Oliver
Ben Jamieson
April 15th, 2010 6:09 amNo flag for The Bahamas either.
We’re pretty used to being ignored/forgotton by the world, but it still hurts!
>sigh<
Yura
April 15th, 2010 6:26 amOliver, it’s Ukraine here. But I’d say there’s a high chance of missing country of many other smashing magazine visitors – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallery_of_sovereign-state_flags lists twice as much flags.
And yet, if there’s a country without internet connection at all, like North Korea, designers might still want to use it’s flag.
Nixta
April 15th, 2010 9:07 amThanks so much for all the icons! Great job. Don’t feel bad about missing a country – they’re changing so fast these days it’s hard to keep up. That said, Slovenia isn’t there. How dare you miss out my teenie tiny country with only 2 million people (half of whom seem to have settled abroad) ;p
Thanks again! So generous.
Igor
April 15th, 2010 12:49 pmOliver again thanks for collection, and sorry for CAPS letters :) I just type message and press SUBMIT. My original message doesn’t contain any negative subtext.
Dennis
April 16th, 2010 12:28 amI always like looking at the United Nations Member States. These represent (in my simple mind) the countries of the world. Take a look here: http://www.un.org/en/members/ or here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_member_states
You currently provide 94 country flags, but there are 192 United Nations member states – you might want to add them to your icon set.
Thanks for your efforts!
Oliver
April 16th, 2010 2:52 amHey Dennis.
Thanks for that link. Just perfect to check out the states.
Maybe my set isn’t as finished as I thought it would be.
And maybe the fantastic guys at smashing magazine will give me the chance to release an add-on package for the flags.
Keep your eyes open. We’ll see! :)
Khubano
April 23rd, 2010 2:52 pmMissed the Cuban flag too.
Thanks for the rest of the icons.

April 15th, 2010 8:22 amVery nice. I like generic icon sets. Sets themed around coffee or office chairs or worms are hard to utilize unless you’re working on a site that requires that genre. (Coffee-drinking worms in office chairs anyone?) But generic navigation or “web” icons are nice because they can be dropped anywhere.

April 15th, 2010 2:02 pmWhats the point of designing anything in Photoshop? This would be a lot more useful if it was vector and therefore scalable.
Oliver
April 16th, 2010 2:49 amCould be true. But when I go and design ‘em in PS on a 48x48px canvas I can assure that the will be crisp and as pixel perfect as I want them to be.

April 20th, 2010 2:22 am@Replicant are you a rebel ? How much cute icons they are ? if you have much fantastic than these, share with us. We want to see your creations. Don’t try to break anyone’s heart in just a joking way. I appreciate Oliver’s hard working and patience to face the comment from the persons like you. 750 is a huge number of icons.
I again appreciate you Oliver. Thank you so so so much.

Oliver
April 20th, 2010 11:49 pmHey Afraz,
thank you!
In fact I don’t mind to read comments like the ‘Replicant’ one.
I do not want to say that my iconset will please every single reader!
If he thinks the icons are ugly he will not be the only one and I am totally fine with that.
But if he would provide a “ugly, because:” I could try to fit his expectations in the next try.
If he doesn’t I don’t care at all what he thinks! :)
Bye, Oliver

April 20th, 2010 4:59 amslick icons… thx!
