Modern Web-building technologies allow designers to realize their most daring and creative ideas. Enhanced interactivity and a remarkable visual appearance can be achieved by means of such tools as Flash, JavaScript and Papervision3D, to name just a few. These strengths usually impress and entertain visitors and thus are often used for conceptual artistic presentations and promotional campaigns.

In this post, you’ll find a collection of amusing websites that, by combining unconventional (and sometimes bizarre) ideas and clever JavaScript and Flash effects, will entice you to play on them for an embarrassing long time.

[Offtopic: by the way, did you know that there is a Smashing eBook Series? Book #2 is Successful Freelancing for Web Designers, 260 pages for just $9,90.]

HTML5 is something completely different from Flash.

You can never think of doing such things with HTML5…

    • 14
      Beany
      May 28th, 2010 11:24 pm

HTML5 could never do these things. Even for video alone Flash can still do more than HTML5.

And with the people that say Flash is old tech, as you say, they dont know anything about it.
Flash is updated FAR more often with new features in comparison to HTML, and HTML has been around way longer… so by these peoples own reasoning, HTML5 must be ancient and totally obsolete.

So people like you like this sort of stuff – which can only be done with Flash. Yet you’re not a fan of Flash?

Over 70% of the most visited sites on the web use Flash, and sites like Youtube/Vimeo would have never of existed without it. Or pretty much all of the most creative websites like these examples.
But you dont like Flash. That makes sense.

My flash kaleidoscopes (http://annamika.com) have been re-created as an iPad app.
It took considerable programming skills and the collaborated with an expert programmer. But I have to admit that the end result is something even better than what I could do in Flash. I empathize with all of the Flash guru’s out there. I love Apple, I love Adobe and I wish the two could work it out.

Maybe we can hope Flash CS6 will code for iPads & iPhones.. because it’s great to make cool flash sites, but even better to actually make a little cash from it.

Fantastic list of fun sites. I don’t care what anyone says about Flash, it still lets you be creative like this.

Hm, I just bought the “Neon Bible” CD after I found out about the song here. It’s a good record, but the title song is definitely the best.
