Behind the design

As always, here are some insights from the designer herself:

All of us designers need graphics and icons for our own sites, not just for client’s sites, so we designed this icon set with that in mind. The set contains 12 big icons in 256×256 format. Both layered PSDs and transparent PNGs are included. We like to call it our ‘designer portfolio icon set’. The set includes the following icons:

  • Avatar
  • Portfolio
  • Brushes
  • Mail / Envelope
  • Color Palette
  • Colored Pencils
  • Tablet
  • Laptop Computer
  • Moleskine Notebook
  • DSLR Camera
  • Easel With Canvas
  • Coffee Cup (who said designers drink too much coffee?)
  • Thank you very much, Jon & Co.! We appreciate your efforts.

These are gorgeous! You’re right, designers need icons too – and they have to be really exceptional.

More similar ones please – and hey, the guy’s very pretty :) but what about a girl designer???

Holy moley! What an awesome icons set. Beautiful work.

It’s funny that some people are complaining about something that is completely free. Especially something that must have taken hours and hours to create.

      terrible. terrible. terrible.

Shouldn’t designers be designing their own icons instead of trying to make 3rd party free icons work to their vision? Shouldn’t iconography be part of a designers vision for his/her portfolio in the first place?!

Superb icons! Thanks so much for sharing! :)

      Some beautiful icons here!

I’m thinking of a redesign of my freelance web and Graphic design site and some nice icons like this could come in handy.

Thanks for the smashing resource :)

It is very good because there is easily no icon that shows the painting.

      thanks really HD…

The most important aspect of designing an individual icon is that it has to be instantly recognizable, you have to know its function, and you need to know exactly what it is. If you are designing a set, the actual design becomes a lot harder, the designer has to face two initial challenges: each icon they design has to be individual and distinctive from the other, and, they also have to have similar features to show that they are related, completing the set. Not an easy task.
