Desktop Wallpaper Calendar: July 2010

Desktop wallpapers can serve as an excellent source of inspiration. However, if you use some specific wallpaper for a long period of time, it becomes harder to draw inspiration out of it. That’s why we have decided to supply you with smashing wallpapers over 12 months. And to make them a little bit more distinctive from the usual crowd, we’ve decided to embed calendars for the upcoming month. So if you need to look up some date, isn’t it better to show off a nice wallpaper with a nice calendar instead of launching some default time application?

This post features 40 free desktop wallpapers, created by designers across the globe. Both versions with a calendar and without a calendar can be downloaded for free.

Please notice:

  • all images can be clicked and lead to the preview of the wallpaper;
  • you can feature your work in our magazine by taking part in our desktop wallpaper calendar series. We are regularly looking for creative designers and artists to be featured on Smashing Magazine. Are you one of them?

You can also download July 2010 Windows 7 Theme that contains all calendards featured below.

Thanks at SM for selecting the 3D Shark wallpaper !
I was a bit late in posting the email but here it is in the list.
Hope some will enjoy – if they have the red and blue 3D glasses – the 3D format. Maybe this special format could become an idea for putting a new a kind of posts series here at smashing ?
    Thanks

I have been using them for years :-) ‘So i am a BIG FAN.
I thank all the designers for their fine work. I am looking forward to each new month just to see the new design. I also like a serie of one designer for a whole year. It is always hard to chose just one. I do not like too dark (black) pictures but I think as a background this is helpful. So I like every month with a variety of styles. I only remember onw month only a few months ago that was almost only one style.
Thanks a lot and have fun creating new designs.

This site was listed in my MacWorld magazine as an “essential design site” this month. This is my first visit and I love ALL the calendar wallpapers. No law against me downloading 5 or 6 and changing them weekly or using a different one on each computer is there? Right now I have the Pine Tree as the colors are just gorgeous and I really like the technique. Thank you Designers and Thank you Smashing Magazine. What a great site!

Hm, sorry, I think the quality of the wallpapers is getting worse each month. Some of them look like they were created within 5 minutes – don’t wanna point fingers at anyone.

The shark and some others are cool, but a lot of them I just don’t get. I think it’s an honor to have a wallpaper showcased on SM, therefore you shouldn’t just publish all submissions, but select the ones that are really good from my point of view.

I guess I’m still allowed to say my opinion, that’s the whole point in a comments section. ;) No reason to feel offended.
I just feel that the overall quality of wallpapers is not as good as it was in the beginning and obviously I’m not the only one who feels that way as there were a lot of comments similar to mine.

what makes you think they DON\’T pick the best ones? if you were to pick 40 wallpapers out of a 100+ I wonder if you\’d think about quality that much after you pick the best of the best. granted you\’d pick the bestest (that a word?) of the lot lets say 15 and then you\’d set that as a standard and work your way down quality wise wouldn\’t you? OR would you rather pick the best (15) and then pick random wallpapers from the rest to fill up your quota of 40 lets say..?

it\’s not about constructive positive comments or negative comments. it\’s about making sense and thinking things through before you do it in the first place..

Neat! I personally like most of the designs, it\’s jut that I am not sure with the calendar formats.I feel like I\\’m looking at a ruler if all dates are all placed in the same line. They look definitely cool but I would still prefer the usual calendar layout. It\’s easier to use that way.

But then again, that\’s a personal preference. Anyhow, thumbs up to all designers. Definitely gave us hard time choosing from many cute wallpapers.
