Desktop Wallpaper Calendar: November 2010
Desktop wallpapers can serve as an excellent source of inspiration. However, if you use a specific wallpaper for a longer period of time, it becomes harder to draw inspiration out of it. That’s why we have decided to supply you with smashing wallpapers for over 12 months. To make them a little more distinctive than the usual crowd, we’ve decided to embed calendars for the upcoming month. So if you happen to be searching for a specific day of the month, isn’t it better to show off a nice wallpaper with a nice calendar instead of launching some default time application?
This post features 50 free desktop wallpapers, created by designers across the globe for November 2010. Both versions with a calendar and without a calendar can be downloaded for free.
Please notice:
- all images can be clicked on and lead to the preview of the wallpaper;
- you can feature your work in our magazine by taking part in our desktop wallpaper calendar series. We are regularly looking for creative designers and artists to be featured on Smashing Magazine. Are you one of them?
So what wallpapers have we received for November 2010?
Update (02.11.2010): You can also download the Windows 7 Wallpapers Pack with all wallpapers featured in this post.

November 2nd, 2010 2:57 amHi! Thank you very much for featuring my wallpaper!

November 2nd, 2010 3:17 amCan someone design a spring one as it is spring in Australia….and maybe next mth a summer one for a Oz???
Greatly appreciated
Natalia
November 2nd, 2010 4:47 pmI was trying to design several that incorporated major nations’ holidays, and both hemispheres (reversed) seasons…but I ended up running out of time [got sick, as did my PC :( ]. It’s a difficult proposition to try and fit a lot of different needs into one wallpaper, and definitely bucks the trend of ‘minimalist’ design, so it won’t please those trendoids…I was going to have Thanksgiving, Diwali, Dia de Muertos and Guy Fawkes (firey, autumnal colors as unifying theme) along with contrast of green (fading from green into harvest) along with some other motifs. Will start soon on Dec….summer vs. winter solstice and various holidaze of lights. Wish me luck!
Mauricio
November 12th, 2010 4:30 amI would suggest that you could “re-edit” seasons, with changed calendars. For example:
In December winter begins in North Hemisphere, and summer on south, you could reedit the june wallpapers, changing the calendar to december to us on the south hemisphere, doesn´t need to be a new one.
I would not mind having a calendar/wallpaper that was previously released, but matches the calendar and the season I´m currently in.
The season thematic calendars are great, but seems odd to use them here on south hemisphere, since our seasons are opposed to yours.

November 2nd, 2010 3:32 amMy favourites was “Lonely White Guardian” and “A Myriad of Stars”. I’m currently using the “Lonely White Guardian” as my desktop wallpaper, and it brightens my inspiration. :-)
Thanks alot for this good share!

November 2nd, 2010 7:00 amthe thanks for giving calendar has a typo. it says “heats and minds” instead of “hearts and minds”. that one would have been my second favorite. my favorite is the usability calendar.
Paula
November 2nd, 2010 7:45 amMy favorite this month is Bon Voyage… But, what happened with Sentense.me??? I really miss their design!!!
Thank you so much!!!
Heather
November 2nd, 2010 8:04 amLove the collection but would certainly love it much more if the Movember wallpaper called out the real cause behind the movement – not just calling it some “weird reason”

November 2nd, 2010 10:50 amExpectation by Jaro Mlkvy was my favorite this month!

November 2nd, 2010 11:55 amAwesomeness. I can’t take my eyes off of these wallpapers. A must have for the month of November and i guess for the rest of the month. Excited for the December snowy with lantern issue of smashing magazine.

November 2nd, 2010 12:04 pmI didn’t read all the comments. But I am pretty disappointed that the only Thanksgiving calendar has “hearts and minds” misspelled. I don’t think I will prepare my “heats and minds” at all. :( /facepalm

November 2nd, 2010 12:07 pmI’m not a designer, but LOVE design! My faves this month are Flying, Reprieve, November Tree, November Rain, Stereo is Better, La Calaca, Myriad of Stars, and Diwali Greetings. Great job, everyone! Didn’t know there was a controversy about the Bell sisters, but their pieces don’t really appeal to me.

November 2nd, 2010 1:39 pmLoved Kim Carney’s! And also Celsiuspictor’s. Beautiful and fun. Can’t wait to see next month’s!
Jenny
November 2nd, 2010 1:44 pmYeah, I totally agree about the Bell sisters, I think something dodgy’s going on! What I don’t like is the way that she won’t publish critiscism on her website, it doesn’t make it look very legitimate!
Shashi Kanth Tangella
November 2nd, 2010 6:28 pmfalling for the “Fallen Leaves”, “Fall into place” :)
@the Sisters ! – just do wat you folks do best.. leave rest to fate.
most don’t speak – but ther are some who say – “I love your Work !”
Cheers!

November 2nd, 2010 6:42 pmI like a lot of these, though I can’t/won’t use any that feature people. Great work!
That being said, I do think that ones with typos or completely wrong calendars should be instantly disqualified. It does make one question the selection process. I understand getting inundated with 200 calendars, but is it so hard to review the final 50 before the post goes up?
Jenny
November 3rd, 2010 6:02 amI think it would be mean to disqualify those pictures, I think you should just have someone correct the mistakes.
Brhynn
November 9th, 2010 9:13 amOr the designer should correct the mistake, or review before submitting, or have someone else review it before they submit. It’s not about being mean. if SM is choosing the best of the ones they received, shouldn’t the best be free of errors?

November 2nd, 2010 10:46 pmI like “Expectation” most. It is so cool.

November 3rd, 2010 5:10 amHi people…
Last two months i send my wallpaper, but i received this message:
because of the unexpectedly high number of submissions, our automatic system that processes these submissions reports problems.
Your submission contains errors and therefore can not be considered for the contest.
But please notice that we have changed the rules for the desktop wallpaper submissions.
Please carefully review rules: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/03/19/desktop-wallpaper-calendar-join-in/
one more time and send us the files in the right resolutions.
Please do not send us your wallpapers multiple times – it makes the processing of your submissions
more difficult and may result in ignoring the wallpapers because of the spamming.
With warm greetings,
So, i review the rules and cannot find my mistakes… I send the wallpaper in jpg and in right resolutions…
Please, somebody can help me?
Thanks…
Jenny
November 3rd, 2010 6:08 amI’d just like to say my favourites are Knitting Design by Maria Fisenko and Pink Morning by Oxtana Kostromina. I love Maria’s design, it’s really cool and I love Oxana’s colours, so well done to you guys!

November 3rd, 2010 8:21 amI just love Christine Bradway’s art work.,, hip without being teeny-boperish. Her lettering is so soothing with the way she makes flow. I will be back for her other wall paper designs.

November 3rd, 2010 8:36 amI keep hearing about the Bell wallpapers being fabulous, but I just don’t see the greatness in the work. I mean, sweaty socks? Really? None of them really impress me, and yet they make up a lot of the wallpapers. Sad.
I love the Myriad of Stars, though. Very nicely done. =)

November 3rd, 2010 9:58 amI am not particularly impressed this month, might be the cold turning down the inspiration ??

November 8th, 2010 12:14 amAfter hearing so much about them, I went and checked for myself the plagiarism accusations against Sasha Bell.
From what I’ve seen, it looks like she’s quite clearly someone who mooches off others’ work. Maybe a publication as influential as SM should be more careful about who it promotes on it’s website.
Another point, if SM gets about 150 – 200 submissions, couldn’t you add some more variety instead of just putting up the uncannily similar works of the Bell sisters?
Amit Panchal
November 8th, 2010 1:49 amFinally, Amazing pics again.. !! :)

November 16th, 2010 6:57 amI, too, miss the Thanksgiving theme. For those who stated that not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving, I would also say that not everyone celebrates Diwali but there is a calendar for that. I like Calaca for D’d de los Muertos because at least it is more relevant for me since there isn’t a turkey or cornucopia around. P.S. I’m not too fond of the Bells either.

November 21st, 2010 5:41 amThough I no longer do any serious graphic arts work, I follow the articles in Smashing magazine. I love the monthly calendar choices. This month I have November Girl on my screen at work. People stop by and comment “where did you find that?”, or “I LOVE your screen background!” I tell them about Smashing magazine and often send the link to calendar choices to people every month, so this is good advertising. If I could have one wish though it would be that the artists remember function. Most people have all of their desktop folders on the left side of their screens – bad place to put the calendar or any part of the design that will obscure the folders.

November 22nd, 2010 7:59 pmBest collection as always. But as always, the glitch is – the smashing magazine logo.
you should put it at a predefined place, like a corner or so, and add some transparency to it.
putting it anywhere looks an eyesore in otherwise gorgeous designs.
