Sight: Free WordPress 3.0.1-Ready Theme For Magazines and Blogs
In this post we release a yet another WordPress theme: Sight is a powerful WordPress 3.0.1-ready theme which will work best for magazines and blogs. The theme was designed in modern minimalistic style and has two views: the standard blog view and a grid view. A big image slider on the top gives you extra ability to show the most important content. The theme was designed by WP Shower exclusively for Smashing Magazine and its readers. As usual, the theme is absolutely free to use in private and commerical projects.
Download the theme for free!
The theme is released under GPL. You can use it for all your projects for free and without any restrictions. Please link to this article if you want to spread the word. You may modify the theme as you wish.

Motivation for the design
As always, here are some insights from the designers:
Sight is a powerful WordPress theme, best suited for Magazines and Blogs. The theme was designed in modern minimalistic style with Golden Grid usage. It has two views to get information in the way you want — a standard blog view and a grid view. A big image slider on the top gives you extra ability to show the most important content.
The theme supports the newest WordPress versions and has 2 Custom Menu Locations. 2 pagination types are available: Default with WP-NAVI support and Ajax-fetching, like in previous Twitter interface. The Sight theme supports Social Media. It has links to share each post to Twitter, Facebook, Delicious Digg, no plugins needed. It is also Search Engine Optimized, so you don’t need to care about it, just set it up and get love from Google.
Please don’t forget to visit designer’s website for more free high-quality themes.

November 24th, 2010 11:38 pmThanks for the thumbs down! The above result is from Debogger WordPress plugin that is used as the first step to check themes before being approved for WP themes repository. With these errors, it will not even be accepted by the system, let alone be passed by a reviewer.
Leg
November 25th, 2010 12:54 amThanks, I’ll check this out. Anyway, theme has a lot of random code, so we don’t except, that WP themes repository will accept this theme.
Pritam
November 25th, 2010 1:16 amAs all your themes are free, it would be a good idea to get it approved for WordPress themes repository. The review process helps improve the theme. I liked the themes on your site. I also prefer minimal themes, the only ones that I have designed.

November 25th, 2010 1:43 amIs there any documentation with this? I installed and had no top menu and can’t see any customisation options in my dashboard.
Hammad
November 25th, 2010 2:21 amdocumentation is required its not working properly!
Leg
November 25th, 2010 3:04 amHammad. Theme uses standard WordPress options, so i don’t see any reason, to write documentation. Just relax, it’s working.

November 25th, 2010 3:11 amHow do i activate the posts and banner to show the images i posted on the homepage, and recently added posted?
Darren Taylor
November 25th, 2010 3:35 amI have the same issue as basically my homepage is blank. Wondering though this is not the first theme I’ve had this problem with, is there something going on server side perhaps that requires my host to do something?
Leg
November 25th, 2010 3:44 amUpload theme via ftp and be sure, that you have a newest WP version.
Darren Taylor
November 25th, 2010 3:54 amDid that but can’t understand why I’m missing so many elements – http://beattieflanigan.com/?preview_theme=sight

November 25th, 2010 4:30 amAdd Menus, add one post to Slideshow and seems like you selected custom page to homepage.

November 25th, 2010 4:44 amHere works now.

November 25th, 2010 3:17 amtheme very good! but it’s not upload on my blog. i was try but not working, please tell me how can i upload,
Darren Taylor
November 25th, 2010 3:36 amRajeev, try extracting first and upload the “sight” subfolder into your themes. The zip install didn’t work for me either.
Leg
November 25th, 2010 3:43 amYes. Upload via admin panel is not working, you need use ftp.

how to configure the media settings?

November 25th, 2010 4:39 amWow! This should not be for free. I mean, look at the function and its feature. It has this “load more” that is catchy. Amazing and cool !! I’m gonna try to create one like this =)
But i can’t do anything since it’s free, i’ll grab it. My ten folds thanks guys.

November 25th, 2010 4:56 amAwesome! Its definately going the right way. Simple and clean. Thanks

November 25th, 2010 6:14 amGreat theme! I’ve been looking for something similar and with a few tweaks and customizations I’m definitely going to use this.
One thing though: How come the posts I want to show in the slider won’t show up in the usual posts on the main page? I want only some of my posts to show up in the slider but have all of them in the list beneath.
Leg
November 25th, 2010 6:19 amPost which is added to slideshow, should not be on the main page. To add post to slideshow, just select checkbox. The options are in the right column near the bottom of the post editing page. They are labeled “Slideshow Options”.
Andreas Svalås
November 25th, 2010 10:54 amIs there a way to make the posts show in both the slideshow and the list?
I would like to be able to highlight only certain posts by using the slideshow.
Ahmed AbdelHamid
December 21st, 2010 6:57 amI’m supporting Andreas Question.
One possible programing outlet is to identify a category say “Featured” and only those who are marked as “Featured” get to appear in the Slideshow area.
[or others if the user wishes....]

November 25th, 2010 8:28 amHi. Sorry I installed the latest WordPress 3.0.1 but the Theme simply won’t appear in the available themes page in WordPress administration. I already chmodded to 777 the sight folder. My structure is /wp-content/themes/sight

November 25th, 2010 11:55 amWhat a lovely theme. Looks like it will be not to hard to tailor it to my needs :) Only having one problem with that, I would like to change the color on the rollover in the gridview. But I can’t find where it is defined… whatever I do it stays yellow…

November 25th, 2010 12:41 pmFor some reason, the slideshow pictures won’t show. I’m uploading featured pictures, that worked with other themes. What do I do exactly to publish a featured/slideshow post with a picture showing up in the slideshow?

vlad gidea
December 14th, 2010 3:29 pmwell you upload an image normaly and in the bottom you have something like “use as featured image” near the size thing. click it and then exactly below the slideshow checbox the “featured image” will appear. It’s on the right column in the edit post page http://copenhaga.info is the site i’m using it and I’m working on making the posts from the slideshow to appear in the content area too. I have to do a double loop i think…

November 26th, 2010 3:06 amI’m having issues the with the pagination – AJAX-fetching posts. Its nothing loading up the way it looks like in the demo. I switched from, Default + WP Page-Navi support to AJAX-fetching posts. Went back and forth numerous times. Its not working.

November 26th, 2010 3:11 amThumbs down, so far. After activating the theme, my whole back end went blank, so did the front end. Litteraly blank!

I am testing your theme and it looks great,………………but the latest entries overview shows nothing.

When i switch themes the latest entries are shown, can this be a little bug i your theme.

January 3rd, 2011 6:22 amHi, this theme totally rocks, so thank you guys so much for
offering this to the public :D
I can’t, however, show the menu right of the logo – I think there’s a bug. Same thing goes for the search bar in the far right corner – or anything else I put in… Any tips? I’ve placed both the ‘Search’ and the ‘Custom menu’ widget in the field ‘Site description’, but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Cheers, Christian
PS (update): Both elements seem to actually be there, but they’re hidden below the header… So I really hope someone can help me out here :)

January 13th, 2011 12:23 pmThere is a bug issue in Opera 11.00. When I’m trying to load posts with ajax and custom permalinks it don’t load anything. Changing permalinks to default resolve this issue, but I’m going to find out what is the problem. Any solutions yet?
Defite
January 13th, 2011 2:27 pmOk, I’ve completely resolved the bug in Opera. Now you can change permalinks and it will work. All you have to do is to change your script.js
Find this:
url: $(this).attr('href') + '#loop',and replace with:
url: $(this).attr('href'),And you’ve done :) Good luck!

January 30th, 2011 8:26 amHi,
I would like to use the slider only in my own theme. Can anyone give me some guidelines on how I can get that to work? Would appreciate that a lot. I would like it to take every single post and not specific as it is now.
Any ideas? There are other things I want to modify in it as well, but I would know how to do that.

March 2nd, 2011 5:11 amhi!
thank u 4 this lovely theme – it’s just what i was looking for.
i do have 2 questions that I’m hoping you might be able to help me with:
1. can i define that the grid format (for posts) will be the default when people arrive at the homepage?
2. is there an option for the slideshow to be image only (ie. no post panel to the right?)
many thanks in advance. x

March 14th, 2011 11:21 amI LOVE this theme! Thank you so much for creating it and making it free. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to get my new posts to show up under “Latest Entries.” I am sure it is probably something simple and I am overlooking it, but I just can’t figure it out. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks,
Melissa

March 15th, 2011 8:47 pmFor posts residing in the slideshow, is it possible to allocate a separate image for the thumbnail? I’m finding the long width of the slideshow to be well-suited to images containing a triptych of multiple pics, but this looks funny when the thumbnail version is shown.

March 16th, 2011 3:42 pmI would like to reiterate what Andreas asked: Is there a way to make all posts show up under latest posts, even if it’s the same post that shows up in featured posts?
Also, is there a way to change the small icon next to the tab/window title? The one with the white-on-black S? I changed the logo, but can’t seem to figure out how to change that part.

September 26th, 2011 9:23 pmHi everyone,
I’m sorry I can’t switch to grid view. It’s strange. Initially, I thought my mac firefox and safari might be the issue. When I moved onto Windows IE and Firefox, it’s the same. Then I tried http://www.hairmyth.com, the grid view is working. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on all the platforms. Also, my site is http://www.incasia.com/pw Thanks!
Regards,
Max

September 27th, 2011 2:25 amHi everyone,
FYI, after going through the issue with my hosting company, in order for the javascript to work/switching to grid view, on the server side, apache mod, mod security has to be disabled.
So if you cannot switch to grid view, do check with your hosting company.
Now I have another issue. I used to have the plugin, jQuery Lightbox For Native Galleries, working. However, it seems to be incompatible with Sight theme. Any kind folks who is well versed enough to advise? Thanks!
Regards,
Max

September 30th, 2011 9:57 amtheres an error in this theme, it blocks your server and everything goes dead.
the solution is to change the javascript file name which is something like cookie.js to something like wookie.js and then change the link to it in the theme the name cookie for the file trips my server firewall and my server blocks my own IP from my own server, thinking im spamming..
A nice theme, I think the share buttons are too faint though plus still looking at it in terms of seo….hmmmmm
