Behind the Design
Here are some insights from the designer:
“Coders and developers have unique responsibilities throughout each work week. From implementing client ideas, to expanding and coding personal endeavors, there’s much work to do at any walk of a web developer’s career. With this, there are tools a developer uses and trusts through these daily challenges. Inspired by such tools and the tasks they help tackle, this set has been crafted to fit the commonly used files, formats, and resources coders of any kind have come to rely. Whether used on your next client’s site, or for accenting your own coding ventures, we’re confident this free icon set will make an excellent addition to your library. Enjoy!”
Thanks, Thomas! We truly appreciate and respect your time and your efforts!

December 23rd, 2010 7:23 amAwesome set Thomas! Goes without saying you spent some time & effort on these and the quality reflects it. Thanks for the freebie!

December 23rd, 2010 7:58 amI love freebies, but the licensing terms in the readme file are too vague. Please consider using a widely adopted license (like one of the many Creative Commons makes available) for future releases so that what we can and can’t do with the images is clear. As is, I will be discarding this file.

December 23rd, 2010 8:47 amVery nice set! Thanks for sharing.

December 23rd, 2010 9:04 amI think the artwork is great but the icons for different languages don’t make any sense. Only a web developer would use them because people who code Python, like myself, will look at “</>” and think “Hmm… that has nothing to do with Python”.
Like I said, the artwork is great. Perhaps something more universal, like maybe “.py” or would satisfy the programmers too?
Thomas McGee
December 23rd, 2010 9:22 amHi j2d2, I appreciate your feedback. I may have to do another set better defined to each unique language and geared for programmers! :)
Haddicus
December 27th, 2010 8:44 amI agree with j2d2, these are quite vague … the colors and a paper, don’t really give a sense of the language.
m
November 24th, 2011 3:00 amYes, the other icons are really great and beautiful but the language specific icons don’t fit.
If every language would have a special trademark color then it would be enough, but only Ruby I can associate, perhaps also PHP, but the others (especially my beloved language Python, why grey? *g*) and also because the doesn’t fit to programming languages, its more a markup language style.
If you would make language specific icons who are recognizable (perhaps the trademark logos/pictures, the yellow/blue snake of Python, the Elephant of PHP, the Ruby of Ruby, the dolphin of (My)SQL) I would give it a 10 out of 10.
If it is too much work, I would prefer all icons grey or neutral and only the name without brackets.

December 25th, 2010 3:06 pmI don’t know why everyone’s all ! :) :) !!! :) !!
Blogspam, most likely.
I can’t imagine what use anyone would have for these icons; cookies? Coffee??
Instead of just saying “These icons are useful for any coder”, why not show them in context or suggest HOW they are useful. C’mon, SM, you can do better.
Dutch
December 27th, 2010 3:04 amYou probably don’t know what cookies (I do not refer to eatable cookies) are. Haha.
But I don’t like them either. Why do the icons have ‘< />’ in it? CSS with < /> in the icon? Come on! And that was just one example.

January 3rd, 2011 7:57 amThomas! Would you tell me, How you can create these icons & also maintain the perfectness in all icon sizes like 512×512px to 32×32px. Or use any other software for different sizes instead of Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator?
Which Software you use for these icons?
Hope to hear soon from you!
Thanks *._.*
Thomas McGee
January 4th, 2011 4:44 pmHi Fayyaz,
These icons were actually created in photoshop, then batch-resized for the different sizes. For anything you’re wanting to create in a limitless size, you would need a vector-based image editor such as Inkscape (if you don’t want to use Illustrator). When I get in a pinch, there are a number of online photoshop-ish image editors (like Pixlr) which can help you do some basic work without expensive software.
Hope that helps!

January 4th, 2011 1:19 pmLovely icons but shouldn’t the RUBY icon be Ruby? Ruby isn’t an acronym and it’s ‘Ruby’ in the official logo, etc.
