Please note that we respect and carefully consider the ideas and motivation behind each and every artist’s work. This is why we give all artists the full freedom to explore their creativity and express emotions and experience throughout their works. This is also why the themes of the wallpapers weren’t anyhow influenced by us, but rather designed from scratch by the artists themselves.
A big thank you to all designers for their participation. Join in next month!

January 3rd, 2011 2:24 pmHow many more months in a row will the Bells be featured for? I’m getting rather tired of seeing the same sorts of pictures from them month in month out!

January 3rd, 2011 3:17 pmMy favourite this month is definitely Silver Winter – love it! I also like Lost In Winter’s Fog.

January 3rd, 2011 3:44 pmI like this batch, especially since 1/5th of it isn’t reserved for the banal, repetitive work of the Bell sisters. Plz bring back thumbs down, I’d love to see some actual statistics as to how many people like and dislike each :)

January 3rd, 2011 3:51 pmI think all the designs are great. Sometimes less is more. I’m sure this is the first feature for many of these artists, myself included (“Hello 2011″). Constructive criticism is fine, but if you’re only going to badmouth us and say that they all suck, then go tell it to your mother, because no one else cares to hear it.
Good job everyone. The negative comments probably only came from people who’s designs were rejected.

January 4th, 2011 1:56 amSome really cool designs but they’re mostly focused on the northern hemisphere… In the South, January is actually a scorching hot month & it just doesn’t feel right to put up a wintery pic.. Otw some really great designs :)

January 4th, 2011 2:55 amIt would be sooo nice to use some of the wallpaper but I have so many icons on my desktop I woludn’t see them :( Long live my good old blue background. Good job, designers :)

January 4th, 2011 7:28 amLittle Gizmo and Winter’s Fog were my favorites. I think these were better than December so I guess I’m in the minority here. Most of these would be beyond my abilities either technically or creatively so I can’t complain, great job everyone!
Janae
January 4th, 2011 7:37 amMy favorite is “A Handy New Year,” but it doesn’t fit my screen size.
I went with my second favorite, “Lost in Winter’s Fog.” Great selection this month!

January 6th, 2011 12:41 pmi think creepy forest was my favorite. would have loved to see some brighter stuff through here though- i feel like 2011 is going to such a bright time! sad seeming cozy winter scenes don’t really match how i’m feeling about this year so far, or do much to motivate me while i work around my desktop. i’m always grateful for the smashing picks each month, though, i have fun finding a desktop image for every month. hasta luego web-loving peeps, and happy new year to you!

January 7th, 2011 7:43 pmFound about a half dozen that suit my tastes. I especially like the racing strip one (One/2011) near the beginning.
But I am always annoyed by the Smashing logo. I don’t want the logo on my desktop and find it utterly unnecessary to include it on the wallpapers. Why not treat your loyal visitors by giving them logo-less wallpapers? Furthermore, sometimes the logo is really big, or poorly placed (such as on Frozen World).

January 9th, 2011 12:41 am“Winter Light” was my favorite calendar for January. I check each month to pick which will go on my two monitors. What a creative and useful idea – Many people have been introduced to your site because of it.
Thanks!
Natalia
January 9th, 2011 2:20 pmNice collection…I hadn’t had a chance (outta town, pc down, etc.) to get to these before now. Dl’d (and ‘thumbed up’ those)…enough to rotate a new one every hour of the day. Always surprised when so many chosen for smashing are simple photographs, even if lovely (though they do represent a large fraction of my dl’s). Would love to see more 3d-modeled ones. Interesting to see which ones have >/= (less than or equal) ~100 votes (some of my fave and least fave ones…these must be very ‘niche’); ones with more votes I mostly agree with, but not universally. Thanks again for all your work; another ‘smashing’ collection!

January 10th, 2011 4:52 amI like the ones without snow, and my faces are Hazy Dawn and Tea and Tiles. Nice work!
ETA: Tea and Tiles is a bit too busy for me; the words under my icons get lost, which is a pity because I liked it a lot.

January 13th, 2011 1:01 amBeautiful collection.
Suggestion: A ‘back to school’ or ‘first day at school’ theme would have been wonderful as well. Not many backgrounds in that theme.

January 23rd, 2011 6:17 pmThanks so much for these monthly calendars. For January, I’m using “New Year, New Goals” for its clean design and its calendar which starts on Sunday. I always choose the nicest design that’s got a traditional calendar beginning with Sunday and ending with Saturday. :-)
