Upcoming Conferences and Events for Designers and Developers in 2011
We’re well into 2011, and many designers and developers around the world are planning their travels for the year, including the possibility of attending any Web design or development conferences. To help you out with your plans for the upcoming months, we’ve put together a list of conferences and events that you might want to consider.
This particular post covers events taking place in about a six month timeframe that ends in late August and early September. Later this year, we’ll post another article like this at the end of August that will cover events covering a six-month period beginning in September.
As always, there is no way for us to be able to include every possible event here, but we’ll be glad to update the list if you provide a comment to an upcoming event that you feel would be of interest to Smashing Magazine’s readers. This may also be the chance to eventually meet each other this year.

February 14th, 2011 9:38 amWaiting until august to post about conferences in September? Would be more helpful to post that article much sooner…
Louis
February 14th, 2011 10:12 amBut where do we draw the line? If we post in July to announce August+, then that makes the August events short notice. If we post in June to announce July+, then that makes the July events short notice…. and so on… It’s impossible to have posts like this without excluding someone. Since the events usually start to pick up in the spring and fall, I think February and August posts are probably the best option.
I suggest those who want to stay more up to date and have plenty of time to plan should check out Lanyrd (http://lanyrd.com).
Ted
February 14th, 2011 1:25 pmYou overlap the posts of course! You cover Feb-Aug in Feb. Then in June, you cover July – end of the year.
Louis
February 17th, 2011 3:25 amYes, I considered that solution, but then we run the risk of looking biased because we list certain events more than once.
But I’ll think about that for the next one, thanks for the suggestion.

February 14th, 2011 9:48 amDon’t forget about Word Camp SF 2011! http://2011.sf.wordcamp.org/

February 14th, 2011 9:52 amThere’s a WordCamp in Miami on March 5th – probably too late to add to the list, but nice if you live in the area or need to get away from the cold/snow. Mark Jaquith and Andrew Nacin confirmed (2 Core WordPress developers) along with other core developers and speakers from various parts of the country. Was a sold out event last year.

February 14th, 2011 11:07 amGreat start. Thanks for everyone filling in the ones that were missed. Maybe this would be better suited as a living document that everyone can contribute to?

February 14th, 2011 11:43 am“New Castle” should actually be “Newcastle upon Tyne”. Just sayin…
Louis
February 14th, 2011 12:53 pmYou’re absolutely right. Thanks — fixed.
Andy Reid-McGlinn
February 15th, 2011 3:29 amIf you want to be even more accurate, you shouldn’t mention Newcastle at all. The Sage is in Gateshead (and was paid for by their council): a separate town altogether.
Or, you could go the council sanctioned route and call it (the vaguely embarrassing) NewcastleGateshead which covers the whole region.
Either way, having missed out last year, I’m hoping to go!
Bjørn Johansen
February 14th, 2011 12:19 pmThanks for this list Smashing. It would be great to get to SXSW, but I’ll probably go to a couple of events in Europe instead. I attended Frontend2010, and will attend Frontend2011 for sure (not on the list).

D2W is a designer/developer/mobile workflow conference. All sessions center around workflow, whether between designer/developer or between applications. Mobile is new this year.
