Update: Thank you for your participation, folks! Unfortunately, we didn’t reach the amount of comments needed for the giveaway to take place (deadline was Monday, May 16th 2011!). Instead, we’re giving away a good number of Smashing badges and stickers.

The lucky winners are:

  • Guisella Acuña from Lima, Peru.
  • Andrew Griffiths from Chesapeake, USA.
  • Noga Brienes from Jerusalem, Israel.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has contributed to this post. Maybe next time, folks!

Smashing Badges and Stickers

We sincerely appreciate all the time and support our readers make to visit Smashing Magazine and participate in discussions in the comments, in your blogs as well as on Twitter and Facebook. Today, we’d love to give you something in return to show you our appreciation for your contributions. After all, why only get gifts for Christmas and your birthday? Here at Smashing Magazine, we love to give away things all year long. This time, you have the ultimate chance to win some nifty hardware.

And to make the giveaway a bit more interesting, let’s set on a small challenge! Let’s try to reach at least 7,500 comments to this post in order for the prizes to be given away. All you have to do is answer a question in the comment section below and you could be the one chosen among our three winners! Tell us: What is the first thing you do on a Monday morning?

If we don’t reach 7,500 comments altogether, the prizes will get torched. Well, not literally of course, but let’s kick the giveaway in once the 7,501st comment is submitted. It is actually not a random, unrealistic figure either; we got around 9,000 comments1 in our last giveaway two years ago.

Turn of the alarm clock, turn around, snooze.
Guess where the alarm of my mobile comes from, try to get it without getting up, turn it off, snooze.
Waking up because of the second alarm clock, and start thinking if I should take one drag laiter to go to the office.
While thinking forget about the time, have a look at the clock, jump out of bed and try to be on time at the office.

The first thing I do when I wake up is get out of bed and drink coffee and read my Bible. When I don’t start my day off with God’s word, everything else seems to just go to crap. The word of God sustains me throughout the day, gives me creative inspiration, and promises hope for a lost, decaying world.

I wish for more time in bed. “MORE TIME I TELLS YA!”

    Alas, ’tis only a wish.

Hop up, get my breakfast on, hop the tram into work in Sunny (but cooooold) Melbourne town. Tram is more packed then usual on a Monday morning, so I gotta jostle for space the whole ride in.

After connecting trams in the city , I alight the tram in front of the office, into the coffee shop for a quick wake-me-up and into the office to power up and check my emails from overnight. Run the numbers from the day before, then I am ready to roll.

First comes the denial: “This is not happening.”
Then comes anger and regret: “What did I do to deserve this? I could’ve done more things on the weekend.”
And then, bargaining: “Just five minutes and I’ll go.”
It comes the depression: “This is really happening, I can’t do anything about it.”
And at last, reluctant acceptance: “Okay, I have to face it…”

Wake up to an alarm clock that is so loud that it has the neighbour banging on the wall every morning begging me to switch it off. I usually press snooze for another 5 minutes of attempting to sleep after a brash wake up of the deafening alarm, only for it to go off again and then I really have to wake up.
