Hardware Giveaway: 7,500 Comments Challenge!

Update: Thank you for your participation, folks! Unfortunately, we didn’t reach the amount of comments needed for the giveaway to take place (deadline was Monday, May 16th 2011!). Instead, we’re giving away a good number of Smashing badges and stickers.

The lucky winners are:

  • Guisella Acuña from Lima, Peru.
  • Andrew Griffiths from Chesapeake, USA.
  • Noga Brienes from Jerusalem, Israel.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has contributed to this post. Maybe next time, folks!

Smashing Badges and Stickers

We sincerely appreciate all the time and support our readers make to visit Smashing Magazine and participate in discussions in the comments, in your blogs as well as on Twitter and Facebook. Today, we’d love to give you something in return to show you our appreciation for your contributions. After all, why only get gifts for Christmas and your birthday? Here at Smashing Magazine, we love to give away things all year long. This time, you have the ultimate chance to win some nifty hardware.

And to make the giveaway a bit more interesting, let’s set on a small challenge! Let’s try to reach at least 7,500 comments to this post in order for the prizes to be given away. All you have to do is answer a question in the comment section below and you could be the one chosen among our three winners! Tell us: What is the first thing you do on a Monday morning?

If we don’t reach 7,500 comments altogether, the prizes will get torched. Well, not literally of course, but let’s kick the giveaway in once the 7,501st comment is submitted. It is actually not a random, unrealistic figure either; we got around 9,000 comments in our last giveaway two years ago.

    1) Sigh and wish it were Saturday morning.

    2) Turn off iPod alarm and hope I didn’t wake the baby.

    3) Remove cat from whatever body part she’s sleeping on. If it’s my head, this would precede #2.

    4) Sit up, throw back covers, and get out of bed.

If I’m breathing and moving under my own power, everything after that is a bonus. :)

I try to keep myself from going “crazy”, take a deep breath, then proceed to my computer to make sure the world is still intact, because I have no cable, and most importantly I surf to Smashing Magazine to update my brain with all the new cool stuff you guys publish everyday. I find as a scholar, Smashing Magazine is critical and of great use to advance my learning capability to keep up with the ever evolving world of technology!!!!! I give ya props!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all your help, and by the way my web design professor introduced us to Smashing Magazine and he used it everyday in the office the first hour or two of work, so thanks to him, now I check it out. He now has brain cancer, but If I had to guess he is still computing Smashing Magazines data!!! Thanks Again

Sorry to sound so negative, but can’t we just get good content, rather than ‘we sell books!’ and ‘give-away, if you participate’ stuff? It’s a shame that I went to SM daily for proper articles, but the last 6 months it’s so different here. I now come here, ignoring the frontpage basically, bookmark jump to the network/ tab, which is 6 out of 10 ‘rehash’ of existing content, and a few gems.

What happened to SM, did someone buy them, new CEO, no funding? I understand there are always changes, but now I get here and this week it wasn’t about the book, now it’s about a give-away. And I am sure the coming newsletter will mention both ..

It’s a shame the daily gems of articles is now a weekly, or even bi-weekly experience.

Just my opinion, based on my observation of the site – as an outsider.

I do <3 u guys, hence the urge to mention the slight frustration.

Disclaimer: Just because I sound negative now, doesn't mean it's 99% negative. It's the opposite, it's 99% awesome, and I am mentioning about the 1% that frustrates me.

Good luck with the give-away; I doubt I can participate. I rather participate because I am provoked, than for incentive to increase site impressions and statistics (this isn't the Gawker network after all). And I am from the NL, experience tells me that hardware usually doesn't get shipped outside of the US. And I see a pic of a video card, I don't have a PC, only Mac computers here, can we Mac users select an alternative that will work?

Wake up, put the kettle on go have a wash and get ready for the day. Wake up my father and help him get up and ready as he unable to do it on his own currently. Make a cup of tea and coffee stick bread in toaster, help my father to the lounge. Sit down and plan out my fathers medication for the week. Fetch toast and munch.

Depending what my fathers schedual is with hospital/doc appointments plan my day around that.
