I ran across this excellent project that was created by designer and Illustrator, Jamie Wieck. The project consists of a list of 50 things that every creative should know. Also, each point on the list comes in 144 characters or less so you can share it through Twitter. There’s also a fun, quirky illustration that accompanies each point.
From speaking to friends, colleagues and recalling my own experiences I’ve complied The 50, a list of 50 things I believe every graphic design student should know on leaving college. Some of these points are obvious, others less so – but all are brief, digestible nuggets of wisdom that will hopefully go some way to making the transition from graduate to designer a little bit smoother.
What’s great is that Jamie plans to add 50 more for a total of 100 points. A lot of the points on this list are things that are simple and obvious, and a lot of them are things that I’ve learned the hard way (through experience).
Here are just the first five points that he mentions.
- You are not the first.
- There is always someone better.
- Success is not a finite resource.
- You cannot score without a goal.
- Starting anything requires energy.
What do you think of this project? What are some of the things you would add to this list if you can? I’d like to hear your thought below so let me know!
