Behind the Design

As always, here are some insights from the designers:

“We designed the brand logo section as well as the navigation below to be very clear so that this theme looks neat and attractive. We made the single product page to look clean so users would concentrate more on products and thus is free of distractions. Contents are on the left side, while the add-to-cart button are on the right side, beside the contents.

Don’t miss the opportunity to get this free Balita Theme because there are not many ways you can get a free premium theme everyday. Last but not least, once again, thank you Smashing Magazine for the opportunity.”

Thank you, Tokokoo. We appreciate your work and your good intentions!

The Smashing Editorial loves high-quality content and cares about little details. We also believe that content and design are crafts worth sharpening.

Balita doesn’t support product variations, the “add to cart” animation sticks, and related products are set at $0.00 when a product uses a variation.
    How do we fix this?

I created a sandbox wordpress website with ONLY balita and ONLY wp-ecommerce activated, so it is not a conflicting plugin.

The “add to cart” animation displays correctly WITHOUT varitions, and “related products” are priced correctly WITHOUT variations.

I’ve downloaded the Balita theme multiple times, thinking that I had the problem, but it seems like it’s either WP or Balita. I am not able to unzip the file. I am not able to upload it through WP or my server. Does anyone know how to fix this? It’s so frustrating. Thanks.

I would really love to see this theme go cross plugin. There are a bunch of shop plugins, and it would be cool if it worked out of the box with a few of these (wp e-commerce, woocommerce, shopp to name a few). Because the theme looks just beautiful, and I would love to give it a spin on my shop that uses woocommerce.

Does Tokokoo do a blank wordpress e-commerce theme? That would be fantastic, I can’t seem to find one and going from a completely naked wordpress to integrated wp e-commerce (modifying all the stylesheets) can be somewhat of a lengthy process.. just a thought..

    great theme though.

Apologies for not seeing your post, before I posted. The live demo is hosed when viewing in IE7 and 8. If this was a design portfolio theme, you could make the argument for IE9 only support, however with e-commerce you really need to support at least IE8 if not IE7. Not my preference I personally would love it if everybody used modern browsers, but pull a report of the browsers coming into commerce sites and you will more than likely find the majority are IE8, with some IE7, and a sliver of IE9. It’s unfortunate, but its the reality we deal with.

Nice work guys. I think that your designs are stunning to say the least.

Another great theme for sites running the WP e-Commerce Plugin. Not only is this theme testament to how good the Tokokoo team is but I think that it is also testament to how extendable the WP e-Commerce Plugin actually is these days.

Has WordPress finally gotten to the point where it can do solid e-commerce? Most WP developers I’ve known for the past 5 years or so have always made e-commerce out to be virtually inviable on WP, outside of using sites like CoreCommerce or what not.
