Crayon’s Snowy Sailing

"When I was a little girl, I was greatly fascinated about the magic of crayons. I still am. This illustration pays homage to the humble crayon. A life shared with children (and grown-ups who refuse to grow old). A small but a colorful, textured life. This winter season, I want to portray “Crayosa” as she peacefully sails through the snowy sea, carried by the stack of crayons in different shades of blue and purple." THE LITTLE THINGS is one of my favourites (difficult choice as it is a beautiful collection) I will change it after my birthday on the 16th with a Christmas Theme… most probably with RETRO CHRISTMAS, thank you for the great designs and I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and Happy 2012.

  2. 3

Excellent designs! I like all of them.

    Thanks the designers.

  3. 4

Best collection I’ve seen on here all year; I’m going with ‘Christmas Winter’.

  4. 5

Thanks very much for adding my Calendar! Merry Christmas to all readers and everyone at SmashingMag! It’s been a great competition this time, too! =)

  5. 6

Let me just say I love these designs. The company I work for recently decided to stop designing desktop calendars due to a needed change in resources and responsibilities. While I understand and agree with the change, I was a bit disappointed as I look forward to having a new desktop calendar each month. I am so excited that I have found these calendars and they are absolutely wonderful!!!! Even better than what I had before! Kudos to the artists! I had a tough time picking just one and I’m more than likely going to change my desktop throughout the month because I just couldn’t pick only one design!

  6. 7

    Like them!! Really nice!

  7. 8

they are all very good this month.Really like christmas winter

  8. 9

Night Snow is my favorite. Easy on the eyes and I can see my desktop icons haha.

    • 10

Glad you enjoy it! I download these every month but this is my first submission and I’m very happy it was selected :)

  9. 11

I really enjoy Night Snow. The placement of the calendar on the right is a great spot.

  10. 12

Tongue Stuck On Lamppost and Pixel are the best

  11. 13

    Holiday Lights!! Wicked!

  12. 14

Wonderful collection- think I’m going to have to switch out among several this December! Thank you to the designers for the hard work- cheery wallpaper definitely brightens my workspace.

  13. 15

Loved this collection! Had a hard time choosing but ended up with Hand Drawn December. Thanks for sharing your artwork!

  14. 16

Some nice stuff. Did mine not get on because of copyright by any chance? :(

  15. 17

Great work SM, really great collection. Firebirds is best though!

  16. 18

for me, december blue and pow time are the best :)

  17. 19

Again no 1366×768… I feel so bad :(

    • 20

Once again, 1366×768 users have no choice. :(

    • 21

      alway… !!! I think we have to change our monitor… :)

    • 22

Maybe someone could rework a few wallpapers for us? I’m not a Photoshop master and I would really like those funny birds designed by Nicole Bauer from Germany on my desktop ;)

    • 23

There is a txt file we have to fill in as we submit our calendars, and there is no option for an 1366×768 resolution. My laptop has this resolution as well, btw, and it’s sad that we don’t have this possible. You know what? I’ll email The Smashing Guys about this idea.

      • 24

According to wikipedia 1366×768 is the second most common resolution for internet users (behind 1024×768). Maybe let them know that as well.

    • 25

If you need a substitute, the closest height/width ratio would probably be 2560×1440. Its ratio is 0.5625, whereas 1366×768 is 0.56222548… so it’s really not that far off, just some simple resizing. Hope that helps!

    • 26

You can use the 2560×1440 one!! They have the same aspect ratio. ;-)

  18. 27

Just had to comment! I think this is the best bunch yet…thank you to your team for putting together and giving away such great work. We appreciate it!!

  19. 28

Now I know what it feels like to be in the final few… it’s nerve-wracking scrolling through all the fantastic entries! Thanks SM!

If I had to choose my favourites… I love Simple December and Sweater, but I’ll be rotating between a lot of these.

  20. 29

Question: what if you guys made an rss wallpaper feed for each calendar, so that every day the day of the month changed. Artists could even add Easter eggs into the 30 days of art…. Just a thought as i sit here and enjoy another great month of creative calendaring :-)

  21. 30

    Great wallpapers everyone!

There’s a bit of a typo in the intro article though:
“This post features 30 free desktop wallpapers created by artists across the globe for November* 2011. ”

    Should be December, no?

  22. 31

This is the first month that I’ve ever used a few of the wallpapers! I love so many of them!

  23. 32

How to download all of wallpaper?

  24. 34

I downloaded several, but my favorites are Merry Christmas and Simple December. Fabulous typography on both!

  25. 35

My favorite is Hand Drawn December. I love the illustration and the usable calendar.

  26. 37

Great wallpapers!! Christmas Winter is the best for me :-)

  27. 38

What a nice job! I liked many, but my favorites were Firebird and Holiday Lights.

  28. 39

Impressive designs. Good work. Two favorites are Hand Drawn December and International Christmas.

  29. 40

I changed mine to hand-drawn December. Thanks for your never-ending inspiration.

  30. 41

    international Christmas is my take

  31. 42

    Beautiful. Inspirational for some.

  32. 43

Pixel is my favorite but the calender version doesn’t have any indication of weekends, holidays, etc.

  33. 44

As usual, the work of Colin Whitehurst is my favorite. So, December Blue is my wallpaper at work and at home. But often, I change during the month, because there are so many beautiful and creative images… Thanks for this wonderful idea to offer us a way to make our computer screen so different and colorful.

  34. 45

    Superb collection!

  35. 46

I liked the wallpaper of Shravan Mishra from India. Kept on my desktop

  36. 47

    nice collection….

  37. 48

    Again no 1366×768

    November 30, 2011 10:45 pm

Waaaauw, I love the collection of this month!! I will have a new background every week :-) Thanks a lot for this great job!

  44. 55

It is truely the best choice compared to previous months!
My favourite is – Always give more than you take and I think I´m going to change it after couple of weeks to Merry Christmas Wallpaper. Now- when my wallpaper is changed – it feels so much more like Christmas in my soul !!!

  45. 56

Brilliant selection. “Tongue Stuck On Lamppost” is the winner for me!

  46. 57

My favorite is Father Frost! Nice job !

  47. 58

    Beautyful works.
But i always miss the 2560 x 1600 resolution. Please include it. :)

  48. 59

Fantastic selection this month, well done everyone.

    Love December.

Retro Christmas & Christmas Winter are my top 2.

  49. 60

Thanks for sharing my work! Have a nice christmas and lots of fun.

  50. 61

    Snowman is my favorurite

  51. 62

    Please also upload for the resolution of : 1600 x 900 :)

  52. 63

Southern December was my favorite….because I live in southern hemisphere and is hot as hell here this time of the year XD

  53. 64

Christmas Winter, but I like all of them.
    Wonderful Collection!
    Thanks and ciao.

  54. 65

ugh! how do i even choose! there all too good!

  55. 66

I downloaded Merry Christmas by Christian Goldemann but can anyone explain why December 6 and 24 would be highlighted as if they were holidays but December 25 isn’t? (Aside from the 24th being Christmas Eve…) Maybe they’re holidays in Germany?

    • 67

December 6th is the Feast of St. Nicholas, celebrated in Germany (and in Minnesota, USA – where many German immigrants like my ancestors settled!).

  56. 68
  57. 69

wow, this was a hard lot to choose from, so many great designs!! i finally chose Winter Wonderland, simply because this is the best time of the year to embrace the snow (before i’m sick and tired of it and long for summer).

  58. 70

Very nice – so many to choose from. Thanks again!

  59. 71

The choice is really difficult this month. There are so many really cute designs! I still haven’t decided between the Cristmas Cookies Thief, the father Frost and the Christmas Winter.

  60. 72

Mister Snowman is my favorite ! Thanks

  61. 73

They’re all so great, I’m having a hard time deciding! Best collection yet!

  62. 74

Great collection of talent this month!

    So many to love.
Father Frost, December Blue, Merry Christmas Wallpaper, Pixel, December Deer, Mister Snowman

  63. 75

Hey Smashing Magazine Gurus! Have you ever thought of just having one big download for each size? I usually grab every calendar in the appropriate resolution for the machine im working on…and I would love to have a one click method for doing this.

  64. 76

They’re all so brilliant, and such a great variety! I would love to see the Christmas Winter wallpaper in 1280×1024. For now, I’m enjoying the Night Snow wallpaper, so tranquil & easy to spot my desktop icons & the calendar. Thank you!

  65. 77

pekne si matej zabil/matej you killd it WITH FIRE! :D

  66. 78

Retro Christmas and Hand Drawn December go together quite nicely on my 2 monitors that are next to each other. Adore!

  67. 79

Been looking forward to these all year! How cool would it be if “Time Ticking Away” was a screen saver that actually worked.

I would have liked to have seen more faith-based designs…since the baby Jesus is why we celebrate Christmas. Maybe next year? My favorites: Nathan Millers, Give More: very classy and classic. Joao Lima Jr: Retro Christmas: a fresh look to a time past.

I often change out my screen savers throughout the month. My first pick was Josh Cleland’s “Tongue Stuck on Lampost.” :P

  68. 80

Wow! There are so many fabulous wallpapers this month. It was tough (I may have to change weekly!), but I finally chose Christmas Winter. Great job, everyone!

  69. 81

    I love sweater!

  70. 82

More wonderful desktops :) Thanks SM and everyone who contributed! My favourites are “Blue December” and “Simple December”.

  71. 83

    Tongue Stuck On Lamppost :)

  72. 84

So many good ones! …I’ll just have to change my desktop several times this month. Thank you to all who have submitted wallpapers. Your work is much admired and appreciated!

  73. 85

How come the quality of these wallpapers has dropped down? About an year ago I had difficulty choosing a wallpaper from three or four GREAT ones but for a few months now I haven’t wound good enough wallpapers. Some of them look the same from month to month with their shiny “cute” creatures in “funny” situations and then there’s the artistic vectorlines/photos that aren’t that artistic after all. I’ve seen this pattern for few months now.

Try some new designers, maybe hold a contest to get some new entries.

Took this months wallpaper from Dec’09 -selection, from the good ‘ol times!

  74. 88

    I like most of them~~they are fabulous~~

  75. 89

Nice collection, but Merry Christmas is the best one. It’s simple and beautiful

  76. 90

    Awesome collection.Thank you for sharing.

  77. 91

    Kudos for Firebirds!

  78. 92

Thank You Suety Kwan. Unfortunately the southern hemisphere gets largely ignored in these posts, so the seasonal pictures are always at the wrong time of year for me.
Now someone just needs to post a picture of Santa relaxing at the beach!
Merry christmas from New Zealand :)

  79. 94

I love them all, so choosing one is difficult but…

    On My Desktop I Put….

    Winter Wonderland

Now I need a log fire, cup of steaming hot chocolate a good film on the telly and a blanket to snuggle up in. :)

Cheers for the download and Happy Christmas 2011 to all!

    Susan Hodgson
    (aka Groobers)

  80. 95

Wow! One of the best months yet – so chuffed.

    - Cheleveche – I think this is my favourite of yours all year with Father Frost.

I also love Holiday Lights and December Blue!

    Cheers everyone.

  81. 96

I have a different wallpaper on each desktop that I log into at work. Lots of variety and some very good submissions for this month.

  82. 97

“Give More” – very positive and cozy! Sitting on the sofa covered with this blanket just to think about “The Little Things” ! “Merry Christmas” with a gorgeous deer! I love these three ones! Have a nice holiday in December and the whole year round!

  83. 98

tongue stuck on lamppost, very nice :D good as always

everything else – boring as hell

  84. 99

My favorite, by far, is the lamp-post in UK… so Narnian-like, if you ask me. ;- )

  85. 100

Though I don’t speak Spanish, thank you for your kind words! :)

  86. 101

It was really difficult to narrow it down but I’d have to say Give More and Little Things are both wonderful. I like the ones each month that have an affirmation or positive thought; they keep me happy and motivated at work. Thanks to everyone for the hard work they put in to make these wallpapers each month. Merry Christmas.

  96. 112

  100. 116

I agree with many of the other commenters here…For me, best collection since April. I’ve had the wallpaper I selected in April until I finally saw something I liked in November, but this collection is fab. My fav is Christmas Winter, which I am using now, but I like many others. I especially got a kick out of Tongue Stuck on Lamppost.

  117. 133

High quality creations. Very thanks to designers.

  118. 134

Wow, where’s Jesus? Isn’t His birthday? CHRISTmas. I always love the designs, just disappointed to see only snowflakes and Santas. Merry Christmas, guys, and thanks for all the beautiful art you do.

  119. 135

Like quite a few of them; especially of note…

“Jingle All The Way””: one of the most creative ways to display the calendar. It both reminds me of sledding/skiing and gives the sense of a “countdown” as it spirals down to both Christmas and a New Year.

Loved the “Tongue on Lamppost” & “Candy Cane Monster” for smiles & joy they provide, and…

The “International Christmas” and “Merry XMas” heart to remind me what the true meaning of Christmas is (goodwill toward men & love) when I start to get too caught up in the hustle & shopping & commercial cynicism.

  120. 136

Took Jingle All the Way this month – I love when the designer uses the calendar itself as part of the design. So fun and whimsical! Thank you!

  121. 137

    Christmas Winter is my favorite…

  122. 138

My favorite is hollyday lights. I like others but this is my favorite! so beautiful!

This is awomese! It’s so important to remind kids that Christmas is not just about getting lots of gifts, but spreading the Christmas spirit. Thanks for posting this; I’ll be using it in a few years! :-)

  127. 144

Hi all, Best collection of Christmas Wallpaper, I like the International christmas. Merry Christmas to all the people in the world. Lets all enjoy the Birth of Lord Christ:-)

  128. 145

Why no 1366×768? I agree that it is a very common screen resolution, so why don’t they have any options for it?
