Crayon’s Snowy Sailing
"When I was a little girl, I was greatly fascinated about the magic of crayons. I still am. This illustration pays homage to the humble crayon. A life shared with children (and grown-ups who refuse to grow old). A small but a colorful, textured life. This winter season, I want to portray “Crayosa” as she peacefully sails through the snowy sea, carried by the stack of crayons in different shades of blue and purple." Designed by Jessette Dayate – Catral from Singapore.

November 30th, 2011 6:38 amLet me just say I love these designs. The company I work for recently decided to stop designing desktop calendars due to a needed change in resources and responsibilities. While I understand and agree with the change, I was a bit disappointed as I look forward to having a new desktop calendar each month. I am so excited that I have found these calendars and they are absolutely wonderful!!!! Even better than what I had before! Kudos to the artists! I had a tough time picking just one and I’m more than likely going to change my desktop throughout the month because I just couldn’t pick only one design!

December 2nd, 2011 2:25 pmThere is a txt file we have to fill in as we submit our calendars, and there is no option for an 1366×768 resolution. My laptop has this resolution as well, btw, and it’s sad that we don’t have this possible. You know what? I’ll email The Smashing Guys about this idea.
eldoucher
December 3rd, 2011 10:03 amAccording to wikipedia 1366×768 is the second most common resolution for internet users (behind 1024×768). Maybe let them know that as well.

December 2nd, 2011 11:23 pmIf you need a substitute, the closest height/width ratio would probably be 2560×1440. Its ratio is 0.5625, whereas 1366×768 is 0.56222548… so it’s really not that far off, just some simple resizing. Hope that helps!
@go
December 6th, 2011 2:49 amYou can use the 2560×1440 one!! They have the same aspect ratio. ;-)

November 30th, 2011 8:22 amJust had to comment! I think this is the best bunch yet…thank you to your team for putting together and giving away such great work. We appreciate it!!

November 30th, 2011 8:23 amNow I know what it feels like to be in the final few… it’s nerve-wracking scrolling through all the fantastic entries! Thanks SM!
If I had to choose my favourites… I love Simple December and Sweater, but I’ll be rotating between a lot of these.
Erik
November 30th, 2011 8:24 amQuestion: what if you guys made an rss wallpaper feed for each calendar, so that every day the day of the month changed. Artists could even add Easter eggs into the 30 days of art…. Just a thought as i sit here and enjoy another great month of creative calendaring :-)
Brandi
November 30th, 2011 9:35 amGreat wallpapers everyone!
There’s a bit of a typo in the intro article though:
“This post features 30 free desktop wallpapers created by artists across the globe for November* 2011. ”
Should be December, no?
Anna Funk
November 30th, 2011 9:54 amThis is the first month that I’ve ever used a few of the wallpapers! I love so many of them!

November 30th, 2011 7:18 pmAs usual, the work of Colin Whitehurst is my favorite. So, December Blue is my wallpaper at work and at home. But often, I change during the month, because there are so many beautiful and creative images… Thanks for this wonderful idea to offer us a way to make our computer screen so different and colorful.

Matt
December 1st, 2011 7:26 amI downloaded Merry Christmas by Christian Goldemann but can anyone explain why December 6 and 24 would be highlighted as if they were holidays but December 25 isn’t? (Aside from the 24th being Christmas Eve…) Maybe they’re holidays in Germany?
JennaKate
December 9th, 2011 3:17 pmDecember 6th is the Feast of St. Nicholas, celebrated in Germany (and in Minnesota, USA – where many German immigrants like my ancestors settled!).

December 1st, 2011 7:33 amwow, this was a hard lot to choose from, so many great designs!! i finally chose Winter Wonderland, simply because this is the best time of the year to embrace the snow (before i’m sick and tired of it and long for summer).
Angela
December 1st, 2011 8:26 amVery nice – so many to choose from. Thanks again!
Masty
December 1st, 2011 8:44 amThe choice is really difficult this month. There are so many really cute designs! I still haven’t decided between the Cristmas Cookies Thief, the father Frost and the Christmas Winter.

December 1st, 2011 11:25 amHey Smashing Magazine Gurus! Have you ever thought of just having one big download for each size? I usually grab every calendar in the appropriate resolution for the machine im working on…and I would love to have a one click method for doing this.
Thanks!
Chilly Pepper
December 1st, 2011 11:30 amThey’re all so brilliant, and such a great variety! I would love to see the Christmas Winter wallpaper in 1280×1024. For now, I’m enjoying the Night Snow wallpaper, so tranquil & easy to spot my desktop icons & the calendar. Thank you!

December 1st, 2011 2:37 pmRetro Christmas and Hand Drawn December go together quite nicely on my 2 monitors that are next to each other. Adore!
Rachel
December 1st, 2011 3:11 pmBeen looking forward to these all year! How cool would it be if “Time Ticking Away” was a screen saver that actually worked.
I would have liked to have seen more faith-based designs…since the baby Jesus is why we celebrate Christmas. Maybe next year? My favorites: Nathan Millers, Give More: very classy and classic. Joao Lima Jr: Retro Christmas: a fresh look to a time past.
I often change out my screen savers throughout the month. My first pick was Josh Cleland’s “Tongue Stuck on Lampost.” :P
Dianne
December 1st, 2011 4:16 pmWow! There are so many fabulous wallpapers this month. It was tough (I may have to change weekly!), but I finally chose Christmas Winter. Great job, everyone!

December 1st, 2011 9:48 pmSo many good ones! …I’ll just have to change my desktop several times this month. Thank you to all who have submitted wallpapers. Your work is much admired and appreciated!

December 1st, 2011 10:36 pmHow come the quality of these wallpapers has dropped down? About an year ago I had difficulty choosing a wallpaper from three or four GREAT ones but for a few months now I haven’t wound good enough wallpapers. Some of them look the same from month to month with their shiny “cute” creatures in “funny” situations and then there’s the artistic vectorlines/photos that aren’t that artistic after all. I’ve seen this pattern for few months now.
Try some new designers, maybe hold a contest to get some new entries.
Took this months wallpaper from Dec’09 -selection, from the good ‘ol times!

December 2nd, 2011 1:10 amI have to agree with you, lately I can hardly pick one interesting wallpaper from these collections. Cartoon creatures are boring and very similar from month to month
No WOW effect any more (

December 2nd, 2011 4:28 amThank You Suety Kwan. Unfortunately the southern hemisphere gets largely ignored in these posts, so the seasonal pictures are always at the wrong time of year for me.
Now someone just needs to post a picture of Santa relaxing at the beach!
Merry christmas from New Zealand :)
Suety
December 2nd, 2011 11:27 pmGlad you liked it :)
Haha I hadn’t thought of that idea! Maybe next year…

December 2nd, 2011 3:21 pmIt was really difficult to narrow it down but I’d have to say Give More and Little Things are both wonderful. I like the ones each month that have an affirmation or positive thought; they keep me happy and motivated at work. Thanks to everyone for the hard work they put in to make these wallpapers each month. Merry Christmas.

December 5th, 2011 11:10 amI agree with many of the other commenters here…For me, best collection since April. I’ve had the wallpaper I selected in April until I finally saw something I liked in November, but this collection is fab. My fav is Christmas Winter, which I am using now, but I like many others. I especially got a kick out of Tongue Stuck on Lamppost.
