Desktop Wallpaper Calendars: September 2013

We always try our best to challenge your artistic abilities and produce some interesting, beautiful and creative artwork. And as designers we usually turn to different sources of inspiration. As a matter of fact, we’ve discovered the best one—desktop wallpapers that are a little more distinctive than the usual crowd.

This creativity mission has been going on for over five years now1, and we are very thankful to all the designers who have contributed and are still diligently contributing each month. This post features free desktop wallpapers created by artists across the globe for September 2013. Both versions with a calendar and without a calendar can be downloaded for free. It’s time to freshen up your wallpaper!

Please note that:

  • All images can be clicked on and lead to the preview of the wallpaper,
  • You can feature your work in our magazine2 by taking part in our Desktop Wallpaper Calendar series. We are regularly looking for creative designers and artists to be featured on Smashing Magazine. Are you one of them?

Man, we’re on September, so we need full energy: Cassius Clay is the one.

Curently I’m into Evacomics-I found about her through Smashing Magazine, as I found out about, for example, Vlad Gerasimov some time ago, also here. I like all, apsolutely all, wallpapers for this month. Really, really great!

  5. 6

August was the month I subscribed to Smashing Magazine. I digged into the archives and found the site extremely useful.

All walls posted here are stunning, but I liked ‘Back-to-School apples’ one the most, even though it is not that good in quality. Keep such graphics coming.
BTW, what are the usage policies for the walls posted here?

  6. 7

  21. 22

Loved the design of Colors In The Garden… Also liked the concept for Summer Falls!

  22. 23

Wow! I don’t think I can ever remember a collection where there’s been so many that I adore. I always have these on display in my classroom, rotating every half an hour and I’ve picked out 13 from this selection – far more than normal (it’s usually around 8 or 9). Fabulous work!

  23. 24

    Again I lose out with a 1280 x 1024 monitor.

  24. 25
  25. 27

“Beyond The Clouds” is my favorite. Unfortunately this is a mess with the uploaded files. The link for a given screen size doesn’t give the correct size. :/

  26. 28

I loved “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”, simple, cute and cozy! but also loved Costa De Los Pinos and Beyond the couds! I will change each week!

  27. 29

“Back to the Grind” – awesome work.

  28. 31

Thank you for adding my calander. I’m honored to have it next to all of these other wonderful designs.

  29. 32

Back To The Grind… September had 30 days not 31

  30. 34

Tks Smashing so much, I love the pic about Vietnam, my country, it’s so peace and nice :)

  31. 35

Love Meet the Bulbs and It’s Just a Job! Thanks for all the great calendars!

  32. 36

Back To The Grind… gives September 31 days. Quite a shock when I used it as my wallpaper.

Love checking out the designs each month.

  33. 38

Thank you for sharing these beautiful wallpaper calendars. I have downloaded “Road to School” for my desktop, as I love nature pictures and it fits the season.

  34. 39

Love the designs, I too remember writing on chalkboards as punishment, do teachers still do that? Happy September!

  35. 40

“Rain in the city” looks funny. Street lights make me think about glass of beer, it’s time to have rest in the nearest pub !

  36. 41

love The Books That You Will Love & world bat night.
In fact, the former looks more cute, but the dark background color is very important to a good wallpaper.

  37. 42

Looking Outward is one I liked most.
Its my desktop wallpaper now :)

  38. 43

I saw and save “Costa De Los Pinos” in August, isn’t it?

  39. 46

Tied between Rain in the City and Colors in the Garden. This month was a tough one – too many beautiful choices. Currently using Colors in the Garden and love the splashes of color on the desktop.

  40. 47

Nice on the bulbs one! Loved the Heisenberg bulb ;)

  41. 49

Great selection this month! I’ll have to change mine each week to keep up. Going with the Ali one first so people at work know what’s up.

  42. 50

Each month has been progressively less well designed, and also boring in the last year…time to step your game up designers!

  43. 51

Wow, fab selections this month! I could hardly choose… but I *love* Dream Big!

  44. 52

Thank you Smashing Magazine for choosing my wallpaper this month! It is a great honour to be included with such awesome artists :)

  45. 53

    Just as good as September!

  46. 54

Hey we made a mistake with our ‘Back to the Grind’ calendar version of wallpapers. We accidentally created another day, now while that may be an awesome idea, the calendar fairy gave us a right telling off. So, sorry about that, you can download the corrected calendar version here…

  47. 55

So happy to see a South African among the featured wallpaper :) well done Shavaughn Haack.

  48. 56

Spoiled for choice – love them all!

Liked most of them…especially “Colors In The Garden” – Beautifully blended

  54. 64

My favorite is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Anyone know the font used for it? I would love to download / purchase it!

  55. 65

My personal favorite is “It’s just a job” designed by Davide Vicariotto

  56. 66

Dude, where are the wallpapers 1366×768? I am very upset, please do more wallpapers with this resolution.

  57. 69

All desktop wallpaper are very nice & impressing.
    Thanks for all wallpaper.

  58. 70

It’s always fun look at these “seasoned” wallpapers while in Latin America spring is coming. I guess I’ll save some for the next year ;).

  59. 71

Beautiful wallpapers, as usual. But in those “season” themes, I’d love to see some for who`s in the south hemisphere, cause it’s not summer turning into fall, but winter turning into spring here.

  60. 72

Loved Back to the Grind and the bat illustration.

  61. 73

Looking at your previous wallpaper collections, your newest ones top them all! The quality, in both design & creativity, is refreshing. Thank you for sharing! And improving!!! ♥

  62. 74

International Talk Like a Pirate Day OMG SO AWESOME. Best Wallpaper I have seen in a while.
