Desktop Wallpaper Calendars: November 2013

We always try our best to challenge your artistic abilities and produce some interesting, beautiful and creative artwork. As designers, we usually turn to different sources of inspiration. As a matter of fact, we’ve discovered the best one: desktop wallpapers that are a little more distinctive than the usual crowd.

This creativity mission has been going on for over five years1 now, and we’re very thankful to all the designers who have contributed and are still diligently contributing each month. This post features free desktop wallpapers created by artists across the globe for November 2013. Both versions with a calendar and without a calendar can be downloaded for free. It’s time to freshen up your desktop wallpaper, folks!

The Collection Of Birds

“The collection of birds are my travels. At each destination I buy a wood, bronze, stone bird, anything the local bazaars sell. I have all gathered at a modest vitrine in my house. I have so much loved my collection, that, after taking pictures of them I then designed each one, then created a wallpaper and overdressed a wall of my living room. Now my thought is making them as a desktop wallpaper and give them to you as a gift.” — Designed by Natasha Kamou155 from Greece.

Acorns Of Autumn

“Autumn is such a beautiful time of year with every color of the rainbow surrounding us in nature. So for those of us who work desk jobs, this piece allows us to enjoy the vibrant colors indoors.” — Designed by Casey Hehner233191 from United States.

Tapping The Maples

“Every year I set up my Christmas village the day after Thanksgiving, and during the fall months leading into the winter, I tend to enjoy the likes of apple cider and maple syrup. The figure set chosen for the month of November are the maple sugarers gathering sap during a light snowfall.” — Designed by Jonathan Shears214 from Massachusetts.

The Fruits Of Harvest

“With autumn comes the joy of reaping the harvest. It’s a time when the fruits of our labors are materialized into sustenance–”fruits” that bring a sense of warmth and comfort. To me, fall is a time to slow down and sip a cup of cider as we reflect on this joyful time of year.” — Designed by Casey Hehner233191 from United States.

The Little Reader

“Perhaps we don’t realize how important is lighting in a bedroom. Simple decisions like string lights, a cute lamp at the nightstand and a bulb inside a kids tent can make all the difference. A regular bedroom becomes a magic spot for kids to read, play and dream. Let there be lights!” — Designed by Carla Genovesio254 from United States.

November Trees

“I was inspired by the following quote by Ernest Dowson:

Pale amber sunlight falls across
The reddening October trees,
That hardly sway before a breeze
As soft as summer: summer’s loss
Seems little, dear! on days like these.

Let misty autumn be our part!
The twilight of the year is sweet:
Where shadow and the darkness meet
Our love, a twilight of the heart
Eludes a little time’s deceit.

Are we not better and at home
In dreamful Autumn, we who deem
No harvest joy is worth a dream?
A little while and night shall come,
A little while, then, let us dream.

Beyond the pearled horizons lie
Winter and night: awaiting these
We garner this poor hour of ease,
Until love turn from us and die
Beneath the drear November trees.”

Fog In Ca’ Tron

“There’s always fog in the place where I live in and small animals show themselves every now and then. Sometimes it looks a bit creepy so I decided to ‘wallpaper’ how it feels to live there.” — Designed by Renata Biondi430 from Italy.

“For Diwali each year, Hindus create rangoli on their patios, courtyards, or indoor floors. These are vibrant designs using colored flour, rice, sand, or flower petals. Here’s an e-rangoli to celebrate the Indian new year.” — Designed by dangerbrain443 from USA.

Clean And Colorful Diwali

“Diwali (festival of lights) is one of the most important festivals of the year in India, and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes.” — Designed by Zanetine Web Design 456 from India.

Month Of The Man

“Movember is the month of the man. Mustaches and beer have come together as one beautiful design in this image. I pay homage to the Old Familiar Barbershop (OFBS) in Columbus Ohio as they have created the mustache comb bottle opener.” — Designed by Zack Aronson506 from Akron, OH.

“I was inspired to create this wallpaper by the change that November brings to the landscape around NY. The last of the green fades away and by month’s end we are entering the cold clutches of winter.” — Designed by Chris Macholz562 from New York, USA.

  1. 1

Another great selection! You guys never fail to disappoint. I particularly like ‘A cold one’

  2. 2

Pleeeeeeease make more of them in 1366×768. I can’t use any of the ones I like.

  3. 6

These are so nice and appreciated. I was hoping for a submission by someone (in the US perhaps) for a Thanksgiving wallpaper that is widely celebrated here in the states.

    • 7

I agree! There are lots of “Movember” ones… but not really any selections that are specifically US Thanksgiving/Pilgrim related.

None of these this month jumped out as an immediate favorite – I’m going to have to scroll through again to pick one.

      • 8

There is allways a disproportionate attention for american holidays, while most people never get wallpapers celebrating their national holidays. I understand why and I’m ok with it. You’re just usually very lucky ;) I must say it’s nice not to see my choices limited because half the wallpapers is about thanksgiving (which we don’t celebrate over here.)

  4. 9

    little reader ❤

  5. 10

Why all wallpapers have the same name? It’s awkward to save them :(

    • 11

Yes, the new method isn’t helpful if we want to save a few wallpapers to use throughout the month.

Lots of good designs this month – more than usual – thanks!

    • 12

My thoughts exactly. I don’t know why they changed the way they were named, the old method worked really well. I usually will pick a handful and rotate them throughout the month.

    • 13

Seconding (or thirding) this. The previous naming convention made it easier to save multiple files without having to rename each of them.

Thank you smashing for selecting our wallpaper.

  7. 16

These are so nice and appreciated. Thank sir. :)

  8. 17

I really love this website!! Thank you for your hard work!!

  9. 18

Wow..I like November Trees, A cold one..Thanks the designers!

  10. 19

    Red Leaves
Designed by Evacomics from Singapore. Just Lovely and cute and warm

  11. 20

Thank you for selecting my wallpaper again!

  12. 21

The editors must have had a hard time this month…every wallpaper is terrific! Was it just me or did I happen to motice a commo thread?

  13. 22

They’re lovely but don’t forget us readers from the Southern hemisphere, it’s Spring and quite hot already.

  14. 23

Hmm, you changed the way you link to each wallpapers !

  15. 24

Feels great! to be selected among the fellow designers, thanks a ton and cheers!!!. Great compilation again, good submission by all. My favorite “Resolution Measurements”.

  16. 25

As a mother, I really appreciated “The Little Reader”. Thanks for the reminder, Carla! :)

  17. 26

My favorite this month is ‘Clean And Colorful Diwali’

  18. 27

Impressive!!! i really liked it and i do share this post among my friends….. Just have a look at

  19. 28

My fav “Resolution Measurements”. Gracious lines, nice shades of blue.

  20. 29

some many cool ones … chose the first one with the pinguins :)

  21. 30

So many good ones this month that I had to download several to rotate. It’s so hard to decide between the warm autumn photography and imaginative artwork.

  22. 31

Good share!! Really to many good wallpapers to choose !!

  23. 32

Great choices! A Cool One and Change are my picks this month. I see that many are available in only large resolutions. Many of us are on portable devices; please continue to provide the smaller resolutions. Thanks!

  24. 33

Naming the calendars only with the resolution means that if we download more than one, we have to rename each one. Now imagine how many people are downloading and how much simpler it would be if you go back to the old method of naming and save your readers all that time. :-)

I do like a bunch this month. I’m sad that I never see 1200×900, which is the resolution on my laptop, and I have to find the closest one each time.

  25. 34

I always look forward to new calendars each month from Smashing. :)

  26. 35

I’m a big Bart Bonte fan and I love his penguins! They make me smile every time!!!

But on my screen 2560×1440 works much better, so I’m going to use the Evacomics wallpaper: very beautiful and inspiring.

    Great job everybody.

  27. 36

Thank you for featuring multiple calendars with the dates laid out in a block style, rather than in a line. I understand that it’s easier to work with the line from a design viewpoint, but the traditional calendar style is much more usable. I think I will be looking at Red Leaves all month. :)

  28. 37

“The Collection Of Birds” wallpaper has some random, unlabeled second month that doesn’t even look like it’s actually the right dates for December.

I would love to see more designs with usable calendars AND great visual design. Seems like most of these are just pretty pictures.

  29. 38

This month is rich of interesting artworks.
A Cold One seems me the most beatiful
because it is essential and meaningful.
They are not inferior Acorns Of Autumn,
    Change and It’s November
    Ciao, Dina.

  30. 39

Hard to pick one this month as the ones I liked best weren”t available in the 1920×1080 resoution I need.. also prefer the ones with the weeks under eachother so… difficult month.. thanks a lot for all the work put in though

  31. 40

    Londoner is the best! ))

  32. 41

November Trees is my favorite for the month.
    THX !

  33. 42

Clean And Colorful Diwali is ok.

  34. 44

I liked “a cold one”. My screen is also 1366×768 and i tried 1920×1080. It fit too..Thank you all for these great wallpapers.

  35. 45

Thank you for picking my November Trees wallpaper, I’m so pleased. One question though, I did submit ones without a calendar as well, did something happen to those?

  36. 46

Thanks so much for choosing my wallpaper! It means a lot!

  37. 47

I can never get enough of these. Although the Movember slant is a bit insulting for those of us who already have facial hair – I always get told on Dec 1 that “Movember finished yesterday, mate”. :(

  38. 48

I chose Night City. Looks great on my desktop!

  39. 50

Thanks for the great selections this month! I chose four: key three, autumn stream, change and rangoli.

  40. 51

    thanks :)

  41. 52

I rekon Evacomics always makes really good ones!

Thanks for choosing “a cold one”. If You need special resolution I will make it, just email me.

  43. 54

“This post features free desktop wallpapers created by artists across the globe for August 2013.”
    Should be November, of course.

  44. 55

    “Slap the hipster”, lol!
“The various days that are to be remembered are yet to get noticed”, oO so nice…

Imho many wallpapers are well-made although a little depressing maybe… I liked Change, also the Little Reader and the idea of putting the calendar on the wall.

  45. 56

    Need more 1280 x 1024

  46. 57

Visiting every month to look for a new wallpaper had became one of my routines ;)

  47. 58

Absolutely fabulous wallpapers. Loved them all. Thanks to SM and all designers.
I too would love to have more of 1366×768 sized wallpapers, although like erricgunawan and PELİN pointed out 1920×1080 and 1280×720 works as well.

P.S: I think the link to Ricardo Gimenes’s site (Resolution Measurements wallpaper) is broken (“hhttp://…” instead of “http://..”).

  48. 59

    Wonderful wallpapers as always.

But I would also like to see an article/gallery that have only ultra HD wallpapers :)

Or some good resources of sites that are focused on the new upcoming standard.

  49. 60

like garden party and movember like a londoner most~~~thanks for these good works~~

  50. 61

Thnx for great wallpapers. As always.

Has anybody found an easy way of saving all wallpapers for a month and rotating them on a mac? Something like win 7/8 pack of wallpapers, but for mac?
I know rotation feature is build-in, so is there a way to save ALL monthly wallpapers of some resolution with a single action and not each image alone?
Would appreciate sharing your way of doing this.
