Categories
Smashing Magazine aims for a large variety of useful and inspirational high-quality articles. Because we have very different readers, we also try to cover a wide range of their interests. We cover various topics and areas in design and web-development, delivering new design approaches, fresh ideas as well as best design and coding practices. Overall, we have 9 main categories – or sections – in the magazine. Of course, each of these sections stands for some particular aspect of design and web-development.
Graphics
This category features posts with free icons, textures, brushes and other similar resources. In particular, you’ll find many collections of various wallpapers — fullscreen wallpapers, iPhone wallpapers, dual-desktop-wallpapers etc. This is also the place that hosts our regular Desktop Wallpaper Calendar series. See Graphics.
Showcases
This section displays the works of designers and artists worldwide. Here you will find web design showcases and user interface showcases; sometimes we focus on small design detail (like a search box or back to top-link), and sometimes we present designs that have a common goal or audience (TV Show Web Designs or Music Night Club Web Designs). Showcases of blogs and portfolios are almost legendary in this section. See Showcases.
Inspiration
This category is supposed to help you break your creativity block by exploring galleries of art, design and photography. Different from Showcases, here you will more general and abstract ideas. The section covers galleries of beautiful photography (black and white photography, macro photography), articles about influential artists and their styles (Bauhaus: Ninety Years of Inspiration) as well as showcases of art and digital art (Retro futurism and Graffiti). See Inspiration.

This category covers various aspects of typography and type design. Here you will find useful typographic design tools, articles related to typography, reviews of popular commercial typefaces as well as free fonts for corporate and professional designs. See Fonts.
