We continue to collect most beautiful high quality freefonts, which can be used for both private and professional projects without any restrictions whatsoever. They are hard to find, but the search is definitely worth it.

Over the last 30 days we've managed to find few oldies such as famous Geo Sans and Mank Sans by Manfred Klein, but also some newbies such as Jos Buivenga's Diavlo. Stock Icons: An Overview

Whether you develop a software application, write an Ajaxified web-app or design a Web 2.0-stylish site, you can't get away from tiny, small, nice and extremely helpful icons, which make the text more readable and present the information more vividly. Some icon sets can be downloaded for free. But the most beautiful ones have their price - in the end, there is a lot of time, work and creativity involved. The so called Stock Icon Sets are usually the collections of specific icons, which stand for particular themes such as Shopping, Traveling, Medicine etc.

In this context "royalty-free" means that the acquired icons can be used for personal and commerical projects without any further costs. However, different companies have different license terms, so before using the icons they're offering you better make sure the license agreement is OK. In order to attract the attention of web-developers, some icon designers present free samples of icon sets for free download. Let's take a look what is actually offered. Links checked: May/19 2008.

19 More Free Quality Fonts

Almost a year ago I've posted an article called "20 Best Free Quality Fonts" in my blog - a list of fonts, which are likely to be used rather for official, serious presentations (such as business sites) than a colourful teenager’s homepage. I didn't expect something unusual, I didn't think about any traffic problems, provider complaints and negative users' feedback.

But, actually, I should, I REALLY should. Over this year my personal pick on free quality fonts popped up in dozens of discussions about web-typography and led dozens of thousands of web-developers and curious users to my blog. The page still remains popular today, and it is instantly updated. However, over the last few days I've decided to revisit the old sources, take a look at new fonts and choose the most beautiful ones, which aren't included in my old fonts' collection. In fact, many new fonts occured - some of them just weren't available for download one year ago, some of them were created over the last 12 months.

The results are listed below - the most beautiful fonts, created by the open-source community and free for personal, academic and (sometimes) commercial use. The disclaimers are changing from time to time, so you better first take a close look at disclaimer before using the font in a commercial project. "19 More Best Free Quality Fonts" contains only new fonts. Links checked: May/20 2008 - 3 Fonts deleted).

Symbols, Buttons and Icons For Free

We've all been there: sitting in front of a new design layout, we realize that something doesn't fit, is even disturbing, but we have no idea what it is and how we should improve the page. Sometimes, line-height can do the job and sometimes background can completely change the impression on the visitors - in fact, sometimes the smallest design elements we overlook can drastically improve the readability of a given text. But if your attemps to change the layout haven't beart any fruits, maybe you were looking in a wrong place. To improve the usability one can use a variety of methods and techniques - in fact, many of them will be presented in the next articles on the Smashing Magazine.
