Practika: A Free Icon Set

Today we are glad to release Practika: a free set of 11 practical and useful high-quality icons, designed by DryIcons1, especially for Smashing Magazine and its readers. The icons are available in resolutions 64×64px, 128×128px and 256×256px, in 32-bit transparency PNG. These icons can be used for a variety of purposes — in particular, in portfolios and in corporate designs.

You can use the set for all of your projects for free and without any restrictions. However, it’s forbidden to sell them. Please link to this article if you would like to spread the word.

Motivation Behind the Design Link

As usual, here are some insights from the designers themselves:

“When asked to design a set of icons for Smashing Magazine, DryIcons’ designers decided to create a practical, user-friendly icon set, one that could have a large range of uses, and look great at the same time. Our main motivation for this icon set was to give the readers something they could really use.

The “Practika” icon set is stylish and elegant and can find its use in all websites, blogs, applications. The set contains 11 high quality web icons in 32-bit transparency in PNG file format. They come in 64x64px, 128x128px and 256x256px size.”

    Can i request a article smashingmagazine style (quality) about rules and guidelines of designing a good corporate logo.. One going deeper then the article(s) you already got on logo designing?

    Am I the only one who doesn’t understand these “icon sets”? To me an icon set is a collection of graphics based on a certain theme that are designed to convey meaning even at a very small size. When I look at these all I see is a random sampling of seemingly unrelated vector artwork. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very nice, high quality artwork, and it’s free, so I’m not complaining – but I think that calling it an icon set is a bit of a misnomer…

    Why are there no editable files in the zip? I really want the “Free for job” text on the “Job openings-sign”.

    @Jillian – Come on! These are the perfect set for that boxing website your designing. You know the one with the twitter and RSS feeds and the jobs available. ahaha. Somewhere someone is saying “there is is”! The perfect icon “set” and free! ;)
