I just wanted to point out that currently, the “Floral” tutoial’s picture’s link adds these two quotation marks at the end, causing a 404 error… But the actual “Floral” text link above it is correct.

  44. 45

    simply love it!

  45. 46

Yet again, a Smashing article causes two internal reactions for me:

    1. This is AMAZING. I SO am blown away by this gorgeous stuff!
    2. Man. I really suck.

    Thanks for that?

  46. 47

Seen them ALL before, several times – originality please!

Very cool list.I hope I have time to try a couple of them out in the next couple of weeks.

  48. 50

I found some of them to be pretty formulaic and uninspired, but there’s some excellent work there, some really really well drawn pieces, some really well thought-of. It’s a good compilation. Great job.

    March 5, 2009 6:02 am

    Excellent Round-up!

I really like the fact that you included a section going over the basics of Typography, as this is key when you want to start playing around with text. Not to mention the excellent collection of text effects to apply to the once the type is set. I’m looking forward to playing around with some of these.

  50. 52

    Just wow it!

  51. 53

lots of good ones, thanks guys! probably could have left “corleone” out of this collection though…ha

  52. 54

Yeah, I’ve pretty much seen all of these tutorials at least once before. I mean, they’re still great though, I suppose they’re good refreshers. Thank you!

  53. 55

  57. 60

    OMG! Awesome list!

  58. 61

Damn you Smashing! Why must you cram so much good stuff in a single post!? This will make the next few weeks of my life at work even more manic! Must learn Efx!!!

    Thanks *grumbles….*

  59. 62

    great check out some at

  60. 63

    STUNNING!! man!
good job! time to learn more form the tutorial, whahahahah!!!

  61. 64

    Excellent!!! Big thanks.

  62. 65

While there are a few tutorials here that I haven’t seen before, I gotta say I’m pretty sick of seeing those tutorials EVERYWHERE as if people only read one design blog or something and haven’t seen them on multiple sites. Not that they aren’t nice tuts, they’re very high quality, just way too cross-posted. That being said, it is still a nice list with definitely a lot of text effect tutorials.

  63. 66

I feel it was an overwhelming amount of information. I would much rather have less stuff with only the very high quality ones.

  64. 67

Thanks! Great selection I was looking for that.

    March 5, 2009 10:48 pm

Hey guys, I’m sorry. I love all your posts and I think you guys usually show amazing stuff. But this These text effects weren’t really saying stunning to me! I’m Sorry! the only one that was stunning was “Create Destructive Black and White Lettering with a Dramatic Splash Effect” Most of this stuff were graphics clipped into a text or some fancy lights and shadows… and or bad mix of coloring with tacky executions… I will say this though… You got me commenting… I had to… only because I love your site! and I come here religiously for inspiration about design and technology!

  66. 69

some tuts are great but some are real crap although they come from normally high quality sites like PSDTUTS. E. g. the flaming meteor text effect is totally bad described and the comments are full of shoulder patting but no help from the author or site owner… this list itself is nice, but somehow have seen most of them before.

  67. 70

Absolutely Stunning Examples…It’s really worth to watch each on of them. Thanks a million!…

  68. 71

Great list, a couple of the tutorials were filler but otherwise lots of good information.

  69. 72

I would love to see a tutorial on how they created the Kavo Coffee ad. It looks to be in the same vein of the Grammy print ads I saw.

Most of these blogs are posting the same things nowadays. (Smashing Apps copies this blog, I feel) Everyone wants to get rich off of posting “100” resources kinds of posts, so you see the same thing everywhere. Only so much to post, so there are a lot of repeats.

I really wish that someone would put in a lot more thought and instead of searching google for “x-tutorials” (which we can all do) they would actually break down why something is effective and back it up with some usage stats.

Too many blogs posting the same thing and links to 500 sites. Please do some original work.

On the other hand, I do come to this site every day, so you must be doing something right!

  77. 80

Love it as always. Keep them coming.

Yo, this site just basically ripped these from other sites! There’s nothing special at all about them. I mean the design are pretty sweet but there are so many other sites as well.

I hated this (The P with the splatter) tutorial. It was very pointless and a waste of my precious time. Every other tutorial I tried was worthwhile but this one was just terrible.

If a man’s mind is capable of creating such effects, then I wonder when I try to think of his Creator’s….. I mean….. it leaves us with no choice but to worship and praise HIM. Great stuff guys!!!

  165. 168

Stunning! Thank you! I am looking to create the effect of words spinning around someone’s head (like a brim on a hat) to show “decision making”. Can anyone help me with that?

  166. 169

are you kidding me? doing a few of these will definitely help improve my design ability. thanks andrew! i think the guy who commented above about not seeing more than one stunning example here is missing the point. it’s all art, so he doesn’t have to like it. but the point is you’ve provided countless hours of knowledge so that we can all benefit. and it’s all available in one page. thanks for giving me more than a semester’s worth of learning tools! i’m inspired…

First of all, I’m not a Photographer. Secondly, I don’t know anything at all about Photoshop but I want to learn. I really like text effects and fantasy pictures that Photoshop Artists make. Thats my word for ’em because these really are works of art. I just wish I could do them. Anyway, I have Photoshop CC and now I just need to learn how to use it. I’m a disabled Vietnam Vet and I’m retired and 64 years old so I’ve got plenty of time on my hands to learn Photoshop although it isn’t my only interest.

  193. 197

How is the coffee-wrapping-esque effect text created?

  194. 198

You know what, a lot of them are broken links. You (the author) should check them all.
