Retro Toys: A Free Icon Set

Today we are glad to release “Toys”, a retro icon set that was designed by Helen Gkizi1 and released with Smashing Magazine for its readers. The set contains 9 “toys” icons (png, 128×128px) that may come in handy in a variety of settings – e.g. in projects related to children and family.

The files are transparent PNGs, and the source file (.eps) is included as well. As always, the set is completely free and may be used for any private or commercial project without any restrictions whatsoever.

We express sincere gratitude to Helen for her great work. Please let us know in the comments if this release meets your expectations. And if not, please let us know what we could improve in the upcoming releases!

    1st Comment.
Anyway, This doesn’t meet my expectations. How I could integrate these in my website, I don’t know.

I’d like to see some icons that I can use for my mac, or basically, some icons I can use on my website.

I don’t think I can find a use for these, sorry.

  2. 2

Incredible – thank you! We just build a new site for families and mothers and these will certainly come in handy! Thank you, SM! :)

  3. 3

I would like to see some more icons for web applications. There icons are nice, but just nice. As the first comment says, I don’t know where I can use them, maybe on a kindergarten website.

  4. 4

Its nice to see new articles everyday but I agree with the previous comment on this one

  5. 5

It’s not like you have to use all iconsets you see coming by here. Just enjoy the goodies!

  6. 6

uh.. what ever happened to the portfolio icons that were supposed to be release?

(SM) They are still being designed.

  7. 7

Do you people also search the Free section on Craigslist and send emails to the posters saying things like “Nice couch, but I don’t have any place for it in my living room. Please post a free TV.”?

  8. 9

Really cute and might be useful for those handling site about families or babies. Another great share. Thanks to all you guyz

  9. 10

    Thank you, they’re beautiful! :)

  10. 11

do you get some sleep sometimes ? or “SM” is not just fortuity !!!

    cheers, you rock !

  11. 12

I’m sure i’ll use these for something… thanks!!

  12. 13

@Ed: What I’m meaning is that I expected to see content for general usage, not for particular one. For example: on how many web sites/applications you can use a set of icons like the ones from here, for example : Free icon sets , in contrast with this set. I just hope SM is going the right way.

  13. 14

The zebra is absolutely adorable. :’3

  14. 15

To those that want generic web icons : There are already a lot out there, more are not really needed. If you want more create them yourselves. While these are niche I think it would be harder to find an icon set that does this already.

  15. 16

They are so cool thankx alot

  16. 17

Sweet! I just designed a website for a daycare and these will come in handy!
    Thank you so much!

  17. 18

These are so cool. They gave me a lot of ideas for more antique toy icons. I love Smashing Magazine!

  18. 19

    Really pretty and nice.
All of them remind me of my child age.

It will come in hand when I need something for childrens´ site.

    Thanks a lot!

  19. 20

This is perfect. This doesn’t need to be an icon. instead of that we can use for another purpose. (person who can think can use this very nicely)

So thank you soooo much. This is really a cool set of toys.

  21. 22

I think it’s hilarious that people have the nerve to complain about free stuff.
haha oh well i suppose some people just have to complain about something.
Any ways, thanks for the sweet icons. And in the case that i never use them, they are a great inspiration and very well done.

  22. 23

pretty stuffs! since the eps file is included, with a little more imagination, they can be more than icons. and i agree they are great inspirations as well. a big thanks to Helen and SM!

  28. 29

    Great job! thanks!

  29. 30

Damn, Ive just completed a playschool site that these icons would have been perfect for. My personal Favorite is the Zebra.

  30. 31

Why would you consider these retro toys?
I grew up with these toys (I’m 20) and my sisters child still does (about a year old) and we’re not some end-of-the-world family (yes we do have computers and a tv :P!).
Do kids nowerdays need to grow up with a PSP?
Does a 7-year old need to have an iPhone?

    Anyway thanks for the icons!

  31. 32

    These are fantastic, thanks!

  32. 33

I think these are adorable. I may have to mock-up a site just to use them!

  33. 34

great looking icons. they look very high quality – could think of some nice uses
