Desktop Wallpaper Calendar: January 2010

Desktop wallpapers can serve as an excellent source of inspiration. However, if you use some specific wallpaper for a long period of time, it becomes harder to draw inspiration out of it. That’s why we have decided to supply you with smashing wallpapers over 12 months. And to make them a little bit more distinctive from the usual crowd, we’ve decided to embed calendars for the upcoming month. So if you need to look up some date, isn’t it better to show off a nice wallpaper with a nice calendar instead of launching some default time application?

This post features 35 free desktop wallpapers, created by designers across the globe. Both versions with a calendar and without a calendar can be downloaded for free.

Please notice:

  • all images can be clicked and lead to the preview of the wallpaper;
  • you can feature your work in our magazine by taking part in our desktop wallpaper calendar series. We are regularly looking for creative designers and artists to be featured on Smashing Magazine. Are you one of them?

So what wallpapers have we received for January 2010?

New Beginnings Link

"A new year means, well….new? So that’s why I wanted to try something new. I have always loved the vector art I find all the internet and finally decided its about time to prove to myself that I can do that too. This piece is all about feeling, subconscious and conscious. I can’t believe how the slightest change in the curves or colors affected my sense of flow and for that reason I spent an unbelievable amount of time perfecting the flow of the piece ever so meticulously. Here’s to going from an old 2009 (red) to a fresh 2010 (blue)." Designed by Saidur Hossain from USA.

Great stuff as always! Happy New Year to all you readers and Smashing Mag!

  2. 2

I love the calendars, but I would like it if the selected designs didn’t include pieces that objectify women (the “sexy new year” design). If I wanted a dorm-room poster on my computer, I would go to some other website!

  3. 3

    Cool bulb’s – simply amazing!
    Happy New Year!
    With best wishes…

  4. 4

I am amazed that there was only one good wallpaper this month(Wish You Were Here), it’s as if some themes are popular and every one dose the same thing,
But thankx a lot for posting them anyways,
Best Regards and Happy New Year

  5. 5

What about the resolution of 2560×1600 for the new imac?

  8. 9

These are so beautiful and inspirational. I just got a new computer and I’m having a hard time picking just one! Thanks for making these available!

  9. 10

I so really enjoy your monthly calendar wallpapers. They make me happy to see each day and to know that each month there will be new ones to choose from.

  10. 11

What do you think about adding a section for iPhone wallpaper and another for dual monitor wallpaper.

  11. 12

It was hard to pick just one for my laptop they were all good. But I decided to go with Happy new year.It was so colorful and exciting I liked it.But they were all great keep up the great work.I can’t wait for next month.

    ps Happy New Year

  12. 13

Would it be possible to divide the wallpapers into two categories? One with calendars that start the week on Monday, and one with Sunday. For me, the week starts on Monday and I cannot use a calendar that starts with Sunday. Maybe a third category could be linear calendars. Just a suggestion. Thanks!

  13. 14

I wonder why there’s no wallpaper with 1920x1080p resolution!?

  14. 15

    Happy New Year to everyone!!
Thanks for posting my wallpaper up.

  15. 16

    Oh god…
You never put 1920×1080, anyway thank you and happy new year….

  16. 17

Awesome collection! Happy New Year 2010 everyone!

  17. 18

Thank You for selecting my design “New Beginnings” !!! :D

also, I noticed my silly self made a typo in the Sentence “I have always loved the vector art I find all the internet and finally decided its about time to prove to myself that I can do that too. ”
Should have the word “over” as in “I have always loved the vector art I find all over the internet and finally decided its about time to prove to myself that I can do that too.”

  18. 19

The “Lifestyle Adjustment” wallpaper by Millicent Bowman is awesome! Too bad there isn’t a quick-glance preview image like the others.

  19. 20

An Excellent Collection of Wallpapers, Happy New Year :)

  20. 21

Nice wallpapers. January Sentense is my absolute favorite. Thank you.

  21. 22

The “Dutch Winter” one reminds me a lot of the scene in Batman Returns where the Cobblepots throw Penguin in his carriage into the river.

  22. 23

I love this on-going series always contains highly creative and inspirational visuals.

Just download the “Sentense” by Temeshi because it suits my new year attitude.

  23. 24

a lot of nice ones! Hard to choose a favorite :D

  24. 25

Great stuff! & Happy New Year to all the readers of Smashing.
