Things Are Looking Up

"I was shooting a wedding and was searching for perfect light. I convinced my bride and groom to keep climbing up to the top of the mountain we were on, as soon as we crested the summit the shy sun was waiting for us and the sky burst alive. It was perfect. The early fall sun was headed back south and the air had that slight crisp to it. Winter was coming but not here yet. The very moment the groom saw the landscape in front of him unfold, he quietly spoke to his new bride “things are looking up”. She giggled a laugh only a newlywed could. Keep your head up – things are looking up." Designed by Las Vegas Wedding Photographers from USA.

Pyre In The Sky

"With September comes the distinctive feeling that Summer is over and Winter is fast approaching. But in the East Coast, Fall translates into a glorious palette of brilliant warm tones burnished oranges, yellows, reds as the leaves change color. It is as if the lazy, hazy remanents of Summer are being vanquished by a pyre in the sky." Designed by Jen Cheng from Canada.

"These images were taken of Nicole Marquez in one of her first studio dance sessions since falling three years ago from her sixth story apartment window. She was internally decapitated, broke her lower back, pelvis and all the ribs on one side. Doctors thought she wouldn’t make it through the night for she lay on an 8 inch broken bottle for over 8 hours before being discovered. She is steadily recovering and proved the doctors wrong in that she not only walked again but she dances and teaches others. She’s a motivational speaker and a living miracle. Here are more links to her story. and this is her website." Designed by Talamieka Brice.

  2. 2

Great collection, as always, but it seems like we missed out on the minimalists this month…

  3. 3

September Bliss & Colorful Apple are the winners for me.

Although, as always, all the designs are of excellent quality. Very inspiring.

Now to decide which machine to put which design on?? hmmm… September Bliss on the Mac and Colorful Apple on the PC I think…

Thank you for another great collection SM.

P.S. Is anyone else seeing the Swiss Re Building (aka the ‘Gherkin’) in the Geometric design?

    • 4

Haha! I hadn’t noticed the Gherkin until you said it, it’s most probably unintentional though.

      • 5

I agree, but perhaps it provides some insight into how Norman Foster initially conceptualized such an iconic building?

Thank you very much for publishing my work and to have my design alongside such great artists. “If they want to see more of my work this is my link

  5. 7

A little disappointed with this months selection if I’m honest. I would have expected a bit more choice in 3D Art like there has been previously.

Regardless, I’d pick out the lighthouse, september bliss and Jonathan Livingston Seagull as my favourites.

  6. 8

Colorful Apple is awesome and my personal best for september wallpapers!

  7. 9

Nothing inspiring me here this month or last. Maybe we’re growing apart…

    • 10

      Yeah, me too :(

There are less comments this month compared to last, so I guess some others are feeling the same.

    • 11

They’re not as good as the ones we’ve seen in the past. This month I like the Colorful Apple and Peaceful Critters.

  8. 12

this is getting worse every month. a pitty, though, it used to be good.

    • 13

Care to try creating something yourself oh god of design?

    • 14

Yup, I agree. I used to look forward to a new Smashing wallpaper every month. Now it’s like a train wreck – I can’t help but look at how bad the selections have become. And no I don’t design, didn’t submit, and whatever silly responses you’ll reply with for my comments.

      • 15

You are whining about your selection from a free service provided to you. No one forces you to come to this website and download desktops yet you take it upon your own narcissistic self to insult the people that put time in to provide you with your free desktop wallpaper. Aren’t you just a wonderful contribution to society?

        • 16

You must have submitted one of these wallpapers. No offense but they are rather poor this month and the continued decline in quality does not do justice to the otherwise excellent level of work usually posted to SM.

        • 17

I agree with you. I think the people taking the time and putting in hte effort to provide us with the se beautiful ‘free’ designs should be well appreciate – and for those of who don’t have anything nice to say or if this is not for you, feel free to take your negativity somewhere else. Don’t get me wrong – criticism should always be welcome, but when it is insulting.

Crazy I love !! Got Ink? nice color and humor

  10. 21

    Love this month’s collection!

I was kinda disappointed by previous months, thought that the quality was decreasing, so I’m glad to see the overflow of quality work this month.

Maybe because many designers had some spare time on their hands :)

  11. 22

    My favorite:
-Big Dinner,Yellow Submarine,Peacefall Critters,Love And Friendship (I love cartoon and they’re very cute)
-Jonathan Livingston Seagull – very beautiful scene.

  21. 32

Thanks to everyone who provided 1600×1200!

  22. 33

I’m agree with simon. This month really SUCKS!
I think this kind of things happends because smashMag applied new policy!

we like the old ones, you just grow bigger with less quality even in the other posts.I liked the Mag like before, small with more quality!

  23. 34

    The last one is awesome!
    Just a question : No 1366×768 walls? :/

    • 35

You must have overlooked a few wallpapers “Flamingo” and “City of Antwerp” both have these resolutions available.

  24. 36

Some great ones, as usual–particularly Lighthouse, but the bright orange Smashing logo smeared on it ruins the entire effect.

  25. 37

Great collection this month. I’ve gone for the lighthouse. The moods one has invented a new mood – Relexed.

  26. 38

Thanks to all who submitted. I picked ‘Things are Looking Up’ and ‘City on Antwerp’.

    • 39

Thank you for liking my wallpaper submission “City of Antwerp”, I appreciate it.
