Desktop Wallpaper Calendars: July 2014

We always try our best to challenge your artistic abilities and produce some interesting, beautiful and creative artwork. And as designers we usually turn to different sources of inspiration. As a matter of fact, we’ve discovered the best one—desktop wallpapers that are a little more distinctive than the usual crowd. This creativity mission has been going on for six years now, and we are very thankful to all designers who have contributed and are still diligently contributing each month.

This post features free desktop wallpapers created by artists across the globe for July 2014. Both versions with a calendar and without a calendar can be downloaded for free. It’s time to freshen up your wallpaper!

Please note that:

  • All images can be clicked on and lead to the preview of the wallpaper,
  • You can feature your work in our magazine by taking part in our Desktop Wallpaper Calendars series. We are regularly looking for creative designers and artists to be featured on Smashing Magazine. Are you one of them?

To The Sea

“Vacation mode: ON :)” — Designed by Klavdija Balažic from Slovenia.

Sweet Season

“We have a fridge-freezer in our office for everyone to store their drinks. The freezer section in the fridge is empty for most of the year, but in July and August, it’s packed with ice cream bars and ice pops with owner’s name hand-written on each package.” — Designed by Hiroaki Sho from Japan.

Sweet Season

“July is here and the swimsuit season is coming. Temperatures are raising and bodies are uncovering, showing irreverent tattoos.” — Designed by MONK Software from Italy.

The Adventure Is Calling

“July is the month when you go to the seaside. The sea has always been one of the greatest sources of inspiration for poets, musicians and writers. It makes you think about pirates and hidden treasure islands. The summer is here, so let the journey begin!” — Designed by Olga Bukhalova from Italy.

Cruising On Lounge Waves

“Designing in summer… Windows are open, smell of fresh air, lounge music playing, and you can easily imagine yourself somewhere on open sea, alone, with your design thoughts.” — Designed by Zarko Jovic from Serbia.

Chill Out

“I designed this to remind people who are enjoying the sunny days to chill out, stay hydrated and have fun this summer.” — Designed by Clifford Almeida from Phoenix, AZ.

Celebrating Our 238th Birthday!

“I designed this as a creative illustration celebrating our 238th birthday this 4th of July!” — Designed by Clifford Almeida from Phoenix, AZ.

A Rainy Summer

“The heavy rains due to the climate changes have affected thousands of people in my country, were crops have been destroyed and droughts affected many households; in place of the warm and welcoming months of summer. However, thinking of our situation while staring at the summer sky (depicted in the wallpaper) on one rare clear night, I remembered a line written by RJ Palacios in his book wonder: “[…] the universe makes it all even in the end. the universe takes care of all its birds.” This wallpaper is a glimpse of hope to my fellow guatemalans: hang on. Brace yourselves for a rainy summer. The universe takes care in the end.” — Designed by Ann Fratti from Guatemala.

Splendor In The Hills!

“Hot July brings cooling showers in India. I wanted to be subtle in depicting the coolness of rains using shades of blue and symbolize the hot sun using the silhouette backdrop. The hills denote the view of the place I climb up every morning to see the sunrise. I wait for the day when the hills will turn this glacier blue and the temperature drops down to 15 deg celsius.” — Designed by Anushree Singh from India.

Summer Romance

“There’s something about summer that gets people in a romantic kind of mood!” — Designed by Clarise Frechette from Washington, DC.

Please note that we respect and carefully consider the ideas and motivation behind each and every artist’s work. This is why we give all artists the full freedom to explore their creativity and express emotions and experience throughout their works. This is also why the themes of the wallpapers weren’t anyhow influenced by us, but rather designed from scratch by the artists themselves.

I love NAVY! It’s on my desktop now. :)

  2. 7

I loved “Splendor In The Hills” and “Butterfly.” Thanks to all the designers!

  3. 9

My favourite is Hiroaki Sho’s Sweet Season because it captures the light and cheery feeling that I have for July. At this time and age, I find popsicles underrated (and under-appreciated)! I remember when popsicles were once the go-to solution for a hot summer day. Oh, how things have changed.

I wish people would bring popsicles to my house/office, haha!

Bonus points for making it so cute and simple! Definitely suits my taste.

  4. 11

Cruising On Lounge Waves is really the best. Shadows and gemetry are perfect.

  5. 12

Endless Summer, is on my Desktop for this month !

  6. 13

I love your wallpapers and choose one each month but it’s hard to choose because I live in this place called “the southern hemisphere” specifically Australia. At the moment I have 6 layers of clothing because it’s winter. It’d be good to have a few designers from this hemisphere design wallpapers weather appropriate for us!

    • 14

I agree! I submitted my comment about the same thing then saw your post and so glad someone else feels the same way. Especially since these are super good designs which we cant use in summer cause it says “July” and its not the same if you take the calendar off.

      • 15

        @Rachael, Leigh:

Unfortunately, there weren’t any designers that delivered wallpapers dedicated to the countries in the southern hemisphere — sorry about that! Hopefully more folks will submit a better variety of wallpapers next month :-) Cheers!

  7. 16

Love the Splendor in the hills. Just beautiful. My background now. :)

  8. 18

This is great website .thanks for your provide good and more choose desktop for us .

  9. 19

These aren’t good for people in the southern hemisphere who are in the middle of winter… why don’t you guys have options of summer and winter?

    • 20

My experience is that they try to offer as much variety as possible, so maybe you should take this up with the designers from the southern hemisphere who obviously didn’t submit anything.

  10. 21

No wallpapers of the World Cup?

  11. 22

My favourite is Sweet Season – it’s up on my desktop now! :) Thank you, Hiroaki-san!

  12. 23

I like Splendor in the hills most, but I’m sad to see there’s no 1920×1080 version :(

  14. 32

Loved the watercolors of Adventure is Calling AND the fact that the calendar is in a grid AND the weeks start on Sunday!

  15. 34

Sweet Season and The Adventure is calling are my favourites!

  16. 35

The happiest wallpaper for July is “Sweet season” by Hiroaki Sho!!!

  17. 36

IMHO, not enough intellectual pics this month :)

  18. 37

I love To The Sea and The Adventure is Calling. So much fun.
    And Thank You.

  19. 40

Why are they all northern-hemisphere ones? There are rarely ever any wallpapers that match our seasons down here. It would be nice to have some uplifting winter ones too :)

  20. 41

love wallpaper of Splendor In The Hills very much ,fantastic !! is on my desktop

Hey Yadhu Joseph Maliyakkal, thanks you.

You can browse more at my site if you like it.

  22. 45

Love “The Adventure Is Calling” and “Splendor In The Hills!”

  23. 49

I have The Adventure is Calling on my desktop right now, having real hand-drawn drawing and writing on real canson paper on one’s screen is very attractive and original.
But I should also say that the messages written for Lounge Waves and Rainy Summer are inspiring!

  24. 51

The butterflies are now on my desktop! Nice colors!

  25. 52

ooops no one this month: it’s the first time :(

  26. 53

Taking Navy and a Rainy Summer. Thank you!

  27. 55

I love “A Rainy Summer.” The designer’s inspiration is such a great book (“Wonder”) for adults and kids to read. My son’s name is Auggie (the same as the main character) and he was also born a little different from (mostly) everyone else so the quote she picked holds a special place in my heart. I also love the colors she used on the desktop.

Thanks for publishing these desktops each month! I always look forward to seeing which ones y’all showcase.

  29. 57

It will be more fun if designers could provide these wallpapers compatible for mobile device resolutions such as 1080 x 1920
