Ala fell in love with pixels and the web in 1997. She started with web design when table layouts were the state of the art and the inline-CSS was cutting-edge. She created artwork for mobile games when screens were less than 100px wide. Nowadays, Ala specializes in illustration, design and concept. Since 2000 she runs ala pixel LLC (formerly ala webstatt) with René Keller.
After an education as a Typographer, René discovered his passion for code in 1997 during an internship at a small web company. In 2000, after a year of self-employment, he joined forces with Ala Ramildi under the label ala pixel LLC. He specializes in screen design and code. From 2002 until 2012, René was lecturer for Visual Design and Interactive Design at School for Design in St. Gallen (Switzerland).
Building a native app with Flash might sound weird at first. In this article, Ala Ramildi and René Keller will share some insights on how they built a game for iOS that is written entirely in ActionScript! PixelMogul is the first game that they created entirely in house. Adobe AIR and Starling made it possible for them to carry over their experience with ActionScript and the Flash platform and to focus on development. The fast-growing and active Starling community was a big plus, too. They would definitively go the same route for another project of comparable scope.
